Frost and Flame by Savannah Scott: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

He’s handsome and broody—the kind of quiet that makes you wonder what’s going on under the surface.

I’m the new rookie at the station—and the only woman firefighter in the history of Waterford Fire. Translation: every move I make is being measured, and quietly evaluated. No pressure. Not to mention the pranks these guys pull.

The only thing on my mind besides proving myself at work is a daughter who thinks baseball is a personality trait. Oh! And, my mom just decided she’s moving in with us.

Romance is not on the schedule. Neither are complications.

Am I distracted by Greyson’s quiet competence or the way he shows up when it matters? Nope.

I’m definitely not intrigued by the hints of softness beneath that military-grade self-control. And I am absolutely not interested in a man who keeps his past locked up tighter than a firehouse locker.

I have enough mysteries in my life. I don’t need one with broad shoulders, a turnout coat, and perceptive eyes that seem to look straight into my soul.

We both have baggage. Mine comes with a lunchbox and a bedtime routine.

But I’ve got a plan: keep my head down, do my job, protect my heart.

Check, check and … well, two out of three’s not bad.

Smoke and Ash is the fourth standalone romcom in the Firemen of Waterford TN series. This story is a closed-door romance with kisses that just might need a fire extinguisher.

The Author

Savannah Scott loves writing happily-ever-after romcoms with scenes where kisses make you melt. Her characters feel like long lost friends, and the settings make you want to take off on a road trip to visit.

You will smile. You will laugh. Yes. You will need coffee because you stayed up past your bedtime reading. Sorry, not sorry.

If you can’t find Savannah, she’s probably hiding with a book, dancing Zumba, or going a little crazy being the fun carpool mom who cranks the tunes and always goes through the drive-thru for copious amounts of sugar and fat on the way home from school.

(Can you keep a secret? I thought so. Savannah also writes as Patty H Scott, which is the Clark Kent to her Superman. If you like clean romance, check out Patty's books.)

Book Review

Simply put, this series truly is one of Savannah Scott's very best... I've loved every single book in this series, and this one was certainly no exception! I mean, a grumpy firefighter MMC, a single mom to a sassy, baseball loving girl and some great second chance vibes... what could be better than that? Seriously, I just adored Greyson and Hallie. Greyson comes across as a grump; he's serious and doesn't say or open up much, so I really loved getting to know him better... and seeing Hallie bring out that softer side of him too! These two had such an amazing chemistry... and some unexpected history between them as well. Those flashbacks to their prior meeting had me rooting for these two to have a real chance at a happily ever after that they didn't get before. As is always true for a Savannah Scott book, this one brought the perfect blend of heart and humor... there were moments that had me laughing out loud (there's a moment with some local senior citizens that I certainly won't be forgetting anytime soon!), as well as those more tender moments that will only make you love these characters all that much more. This was another great addition to this series, and one that fans of firefighter romances are sure to want to check out.

Frost and Flame is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is the fourth book in The Firemen of Waterford TN series but could absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
