Author Interview
Welcome, Tara! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book The Single Mom's Second Chance.
Can you share 5 random facts about yourself that we won’t find in your bio?
I own a business with my husband, love to hike, I’m an avid reader, I like working out at the gym and enjoy watching mystery movies to see how long it takes me to figure out who did it.
When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?
I had a friend many years ago who convinced me we could write a romance novel. I did lots of research to get started and we began writing a story, but my friend bowed out. Still, the idea of creating a story like the ones I love to read kept niggling at me. I decided to go for it.
My first endeavors were not great, but soon I joined a writer’s group and learned the craft of writing. After that, I never looked back and now have thirty-three books published and two more Heartwarming books coming out this year.
What drew you to writing romance?
I’ve always been a reader of any genre, but romance has always been my favorite. I’m a sucker for a good love story! To me, there is so much hope and expectation in a romance novel, so I’ve been particularly drawn to write in that space.
Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind The Single Mom's Second Chance?
I introduced Addie in a previous book, Her Surprise Hometown Match, as the heroine’s best friend. I loved her right away and when I was putting together the proposal for this series, I wanted to include her story. Being a single mom isn’t easy but she’s all in for her son.
As for Nolan, I have a friend who loves baseball and the idea of having a sports hero was interesting to me. Especially since his career future is in question. Throwing in lots of conflict with these two characters, both romantic and in their everyday lives, made me love the story even more.
What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life?
First, I didn’t know much about baseball and second, I’ve never been a single mother. But I have experienced loss in my life so I could relate to both of these characters. The ups and downs of life are specific to each person and even though I’ve never lived their lives, I could feel the emotion they were going through. I hope I portrayed the character’s dilemmas in a sensitive and thoughtful way.
The most rewarding?
In the newest series, I’ve included children more than in any of my other books. I’ve discovered that I love writing kids into the story. They add another dimension that is both touching and fun to write about.
If you could describe your main character(s) in just three words each, what would those words be?
Addie is loyal, smart and careful.
Nolan is driven, athletic and funny.
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
No matter what happens in your life, always hold on to hope. Things may not have turned out like you dreamed, imagined, or even worked hard to attain, but going forward, there is a new path with a new journey that you wouldn’t have wanted to miss.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Before you go, where can readers follow along to see what’s coming next?
