Although they already stood close together, Thatcher breached the gap between them and pulled Bliss to his side in a hug. Then he rested his head against hers.

It was a pose. She knew it. A momentary stance for a bridal photo, not the act of a besotted husband.

But it made her feel safe and cherished. Something she hadn’t felt in a long time, if ever.

Even if it wasn’t real.

On the outside, she might look like Bliss Dalton, bride, mom, capable bookkeeper. But on the inside?

She was still Bliss Anderson, despised wife, daughter and daughter-in-law, who had always wanted love but only found emptiness. Any further yearning for love, aside from caring for Juniper, would lead to the same desolate place.

While she prayed for God to heal her wounded heart, she also accepted that loving Juniper was enough for her. The blessings Coco provided were enough, and so was Thatcher’s friendship.

Despite how warm and comforting it was to be held against his side.

It was not in her future to be loved like that. Not in her first marriage, and certainly not in her second.
