Smoke and Ash by Savannah Scott: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

If you saw Cody Lawson on a horse, you’d understand my obsession with him.

I’ve spent most of my life pretending I don’t have a thing for the rancher next door.
He’s my brother’s best friend.
My best friend’s brother.
And now—because fate clearly hates me—he’s the firefighter I have to work alongside as Waterford’s newest fire inspector.

Cody Lawson is steady where I’m stubborn, calm where I’m chaos, and way too good at showing up when I’m trying to keep my distance. Especially now, with my family ranch hanging by a thread.

Around here, everyone's got a front-row seat to everyone else’s business, and gossip travels faster than a brush fire. One look, one slip, and the whole town would know exactly how I feel about Cody.

But every time those brown eyes find mine, my whole list of reasons why we can’t be together just ... goes up in smoke.

Smoke and Ash is the third standalone romcom in the Firemen of Waterford TN series. This story is a closed-door romance with kisses that just might need a fire extinguisher.

The Author

Savannah Scott loves writing happily-ever-after romcoms with scenes where kisses make you melt. Her characters feel like long lost friends, and the settings make you want to take off on a road trip to visit.

You will smile. You will laugh. Yes. You will need coffee because you stayed up past your bedtime reading. Sorry, not sorry.

If you can’t find Savannah, she’s probably hiding with a book, dancing Zumba, or going a little crazy being the fun carpool mom who cranks the tunes and always goes through the drive-thru for copious amounts of sugar and fat on the way home from school.

(Can you keep a secret? I thought so. Savannah also writes as Patty H Scott, which is the Clark Kent to her Superman. If you like clean romance, check out Patty's books.)

Book Review

Can't decide between a firefighter or a cowboy/rancher? Or brother's best friend vs best friend's brother? In Cody and Carli's story, you get all of the above rolled into one fantastic story with a good dose of mutual pining and off-limits/secret relationship to keep things interesting too. There was truly a lot to enjoy in this story, and I was absolutely here for all of it. I couldn't help but love the dynamic between these two- they have a long history and connection, him being her brother's best friend AND her best friend's brother and all- so we definitely get that mutual pining early on, but we don't have to wait too horribly long to cross that line from friendship into something more either. As always, Savannah Scott brings the perfect balance of heart and humor that I absolutely adore... and this series might just be her best yet! Definitely one not to be missed.

Smoke and Ash is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is the third book in the Firemen of Waterford TN series but can be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
