The Holiday Assist by Taylor Epperson: Book Review

The Book

Confession #1: I think my best friend’s brother is totally hot.

How was I supposed to know that he’s no longer a lanky teenage boy? And my best friend would end up getting sick, which is how we end up nestled in this overly romantic Christmas resort which has the signs of a Hallmark movie in the making.

Confession #2: The last thing I need is to fall for my best friend’s brother.

I can’t date right now. After my ankle injury last year—and the incident that shall not be named—I need to put all of my attention on soccer, which is precisely why I decided to come to the athletic charity event at this ski resort in Colorado.

But when my not-so-lovely ex shows up, Parker steps in as my fake boyfriend. This weekend was supposed to be a way for me to give back, get my name back out there, not to be doing festive–and somewhat romantic—activities with this hunk of a man whom I can’t seem to take my eyes off of.

The Holiday Assist is a kisses-only Christmas novella part of The Peppermint Playbook series. All books are standalone novels set in the same small town for a holiday charity event and are closed-door stories.

Taylor Epperson writes swoony and sweet romances that make you laugh and cry. She also dabbles in poetry. When she's not writing, she's probably reading a good book.

Book Review

I love a good 'best friend's brother' romance... and when you throw in some other favorites like fake dating and the holidays? Well, that's even better! Parker had a crush on Juliet when he was a teenager, but she'd only ever seen him as her best friend's younger brother... until she sees him again for the first time as an adult anyway. The attraction is immediate. I love that their story touched on mental health/anxiety... those moments when he's helping her through her struggles? I loved that. And oh, my goodness, that first kiss? It was too perfect. These two had such a sweet, slow burn romance and I couldn't get enough of it. This story was such a good blend of humor and tenderness, with just the right amount of holiday cheer and some meddling too. This was another fantastic addition to the series, and one that I very much enjoyed. 

The Holiday Assist is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is part of The Peppermint Playbook series, an interconnected multi-author series of holiday sports novellas taking place the week before Christmas. They can all be enjoyed as standalones.
