Way of Honor by Alexa Verde: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

A broken engagement. A new danger during the most wonderful time of the year. And a fake relationship to save lives that feels too real…

Dedicated doctor Hudson Hamilton gave up on love after his fiancée Hayley Roberts broke off their engagement years ago. Then a week before Christmas he’s rescued from gunfire by a mysterious stranger whom his heart recognizes as his ex-fiancée. But will she be gone after Christmas?

Hailey Roberts had to go into hiding, but after she overhears Hudson is a target, she’ll do anything to keep him alive. Including posing as his girlfriend for the holidays.

Can they survive the peril without surrendering their hearts?

The Author

Alexa Verde writes feel-good small-town romances - sweet like pie with more than a dash of suspense and a generous sprinkle of mystery, warming like a cup of hot chocolate. She writes to encourage people, bring them many hours of reading bliss, and take them away from their sorrows.

She has worn the hats of a teacher, reporter, translator, caretaker, office assistant, but feels the author’s hat suits her the best. Oh, about hats: she's lived in both hemispheres, traveled to eight countries (got lost in several), and now hangs her hat in south Texas. She speaks five languages and gets misunderstood in most of them (heavy accent).

Finally, a little detail: she's a Kindle Unlimited All-Star, has published over 60 books, and had over 200 million pages read worldwide. She'd love it if you subscribed to her newsletter at her website. Every subscriber gets a free clean romance as a thank you gift after confirming their subscription.

Book Review

Right from the start, this one draws readers into the action as we meet Hudson heading home from his shift at the hospital to discover he's being tailed... and then reunited with the ex-fiancée who'd left him and broken his heart years earlier... and that's just in chapter one. The danger doesn't let up from there with constant twists and turns that kept me at the edge of my seat... wondering how it was going to all play out and who was behind all the attacks. In the midst of the suspense, there was also a sweet second chance romance too. It's clear early on how much Hudson and Hailey cared about and wanted to protect each other and I enjoyed seeing them get that second chance to make it work (and to learn why it didn't in the first place). Like the rest of the series, this is a novella, but while it may have been shorter in length, it certainly wasn't short on excitement. If you enjoy Christian romantic suspense, this is one to check out.

Way of Honor is a Christian romantic suspense with kisses only and no language. It is the fourth book in the Honor and Danger Team series, and while those who have read the previous book will appreciate seeing some familiar characters, I do think this could be enjoyed as a standalone without any problem.
