The Fear of Falling by Dana LeCheminant: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

What happens in Italy…follows you home.

Avery was supposed to be married by now—not stuck working alongside her ex-fiancé, pretending their failed relationship never happened. So when a solo trip to Italy introduces her to a charming stranger with a devastating smile, a no-strings-attached fling feels like the perfect way to remember there’s more to life than work and heartbreak.

But when Avery gets back home, ready to focus on her publishing company, she walks into the last complication she ever expected—her Italian fling is their new marketing consultant. And worse? He’s her ex’s longtime friend.

Benson doesn’t do commitment—not to places, not to jobs, and definitely not to relationships. His life as a consultant has been carefully crafted to keep things temporary, always moving on before anything gets too real. But Avery isn’t just another momentary connection. The more time he spends with her, the more he starts to wonder if he’s been running from the wrong things all along.

She’s determined to prove he wants more in life. He’s convinced she’s dreaming. But when falling becomes inevitable, Avery and Benson must decide—will they take the leap together or let fear keep them from something meant to be?

The Fear of Falling is a closed-door workplace romance that blends witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and heartfelt moments. With nods to other characters in the series in this standalone story, you won’t be able to resist falling for Avery and Benson as they navigate love and ambition on their own terms.

The Author

Dana LeCheminant writes sweet romantic comedies, heartwarming contemporary love stories, and swoony historical romances—with a twist. Known for putting a fresh spin on beloved tropes, she lets her characters lead the way, believing they always know their stories best. Her books are full of banter, emotion, and connection—all of the swoon, none of the spice. When she’s not dreaming up her next twisty trope or emotional arc, she’s hiking the remote Utah backcountry or cruising down rivers in search of new inspiration. Dana has been telling stories since before she could spell and has no plans to stop anytime soon.

Book Review

This was another fantastic addition to the Love Connections series, this time taking us on a trip to Italy with Avery and Benson. They are seated together on their flight and when fate connects them again, they decide on a weeklong fling with no personal details and no attachments. (Don't worry, this fling goes no further than kissing!) Right from that first connection, I absolutely adored these two. They had an amazing chemistry, and I loved Benson's flirting! I couldn't help but enjoy their time in Italy right along with them. But things really get interesting when Avery returns to work after her trip to discover that the old friend that her ex-fiancé and co-owner has hired as their new marketing consultant is none other than Benson. Talk about complicated! This story truly had me smiling from start to finish and I loved every minute. If you love a flirty MMC and an Italian destination, this is one you won't want to miss.

The Fear of Falling is a closed-door romance with kisses only. It is part of the Love Connections series. This is a multi-author series with interconnected characters but can be enjoyed as standalones as well.
