Love & Lattes at The Mermaid Cafe by Melinda Curtis: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Fans of Hallmark movies set in small towns with quirky characters will enjoy this midlife, clean romantic comedy between a seaside coffee shop owner and the man who wants to buy her out and build a chain coffee shop in its place.

She's happy with her life as is.
A decade ago, recently divorced Lena Rhodes bought the abandoned Mermaid Cafe, fixed it up, and began a journey to build it into an institution on the pier in Mermaid Bay, Oregon. She likes to tell people she didn't save the Mermaid Cafe as much as it saved her. It's her baby. And the town of Mermaid Bay has become her found family. At forty, she's not going anywhere.

He needs to prove to his father that he's worthy.
Cade Delaney has been his father's right hand man for over twenty years. Now in his mid-forties, he's ready to take the reins. Only his father still wants proof that Cade can handle the business. If Cade can put together a big real estate deal to develop the beach boardwalk in Mermaid Bay, his father will finally retire and Cade can finally be his own man.

There are sparks from the moment they meet.
Sometimes your worst enemy turns out to be the person you didn't know you needed.

Prior to writing romance, Melinda was a junior manager for a Fortune 500 company, which meant when she flew on the private jet she was relegated to the jump seat—otherwise known as the potty. After grabbing her pen (and a parachute) she made the jump to full-time writer. She recently came to grips with the fact that she’s an empty nester and a (very young) grandma, concepts easier to grasp than jet-setting on a potty.

"...Wonderfully entertaining..." Jayne Ann Krentz (commenting on Fool for Love)

Book Review

If I could only use one word to describe this story and the town of Mermaid Bay as a whole? Charming. Cade and Lena had such an easy chemistry between them... the whole story spanned just a few days, and yet their romance felt so very natural and not at all rushed. In fact, the story as a whole actually felt pretty relaxed and leisurely... just the way a story in a cozy little beach town should feel. I really enjoyed these two together, but even more so, I found myself enjoying getting to know this town with all its legends and its rather colorful cast of characters too. I definitely find myself wanting to go back for another visit soon! If you love a later in life romance with a cute beach town setting and all the Hallmark vibes, this is certainly one you'll want to check out.

Love & Lattes at the Mermaid Cafe is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is part of the Midlife Meet Cute series. This is a multi-author series of novellas with each featuring a couple that is 40+ years old. All can be enjoyed as standalones or in any order.
