The Book
Forgiveness was never part of the script—but neither was falling back in love.
Lane Sullivan knows she made the biggest mistake of her life when she broke George Buchanan’s heart—and then turned their private heartbreak into a bestselling novel. Now, with a TV adaptation bringing Hollywood glamour and unwanted attention to their quaint beachside hometown, Lane’s carefully crafted world teeters on the edge of collapse. Every whispered conversation and secret glance threatens to expose the truth she's desperate to hide: she was the villain of their real-life love story.
George Buchanan wants nothing more than to leave the past behind and reclaim the passion for racing that nearly cost him his life. He agrees to keep Lane’s secret safe on one condition: get him a coveted role as a stunt driver on her set and he won’t tell anyone her bestseller is based on his broken heart. As engines roar and adrenaline rushes, George discovers the more time he spends near Lane, the more his carefully guarded heart longs for the woman who betrayed him. But forgiveness isn't easy, especially when the woman who broke his heart is the only one capable of healing it.
Filming intensifies and old sparks reignite. Lane and George find themselves trapped between bitter memories and irresistible attraction. But when the cameras stop rolling and the truth comes crashing down, will Lane risk everything to prove that some love stories deserve a rewrite—or is their second chance destined for heartbreak too?

Second Chance with the Pediatrician is the fifth book in the Third Coast Medical Romance series. I had not personally read the previous books and found I was able to enjoy this one just fine as a standalone. How do I even begin to describe this story? It felt like medical drama meets racing with a second chance romance and art imitating life--- sort of. There was a lot going on within these pages, but it all worked to create this story that I found myself unable to put down! George and Lane had a beautiful romance, but it all ended in heartbreak... a heartbreak that she worked through by writing their story, but with a much different ending. She never expected to publish that story... or to have it turned into a TV show that would be filming in the town of her real-life romance and forcing her to come face to face with George once again... and yet, that's exactly where we are as the story begins. I always love a good second chance romance, and this one was done very well. I loved that we got a glimpse of how these characters fell in love through pieces of their story in script form for this TV show they were filming. This was such a unique way of telling their story and perfectly tied everything together. As they're forced to spend more time together, all those old feelings are still there--- but so are many of the same problems. I found myself drawn into these characters lives and I loved watching their growth throughout the story. Seeing them work through all the drama to get their happily ever after is exactly what I love in a second chance romance! This is the first book that I have read from Daphne Dyer, but I find myself looking forward to reading more!
Second Chance with the Pediatrician is a closed-door romance with kisses only. It does have minimal minor language.
