**Book received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Looking for an engaging new Christian read for your teen/young adult reader? (Of enjoy YA reads yourself?) Check out The Ghost Writer by L.G. Nixon- book two in The Issachar Gatekeeper series.

About the Book:

Ghost hunters, Lucy Hornberger and Schuyler Williams, are chasing ghosts through the school. As they vanquish one ghost, another ghost appears, and Lucy gets blamed for the destruction. She soon learns someone has been cursed, but who?

Darnathian and his Irredaemon forces are still after the Spectrescope. He is determined to learn the source of its ancient magic, unlock its secrets and find the Life Tree. If he can eliminate Lucy Hornberger, all the better.

Using the power of the magical artifacts that were in the trunk she purchased from the vendor at the flea market, Lucy and Schuyler must end the hauntings, break the curse, protect the Spectrescope, and do it all without getting expelled from school.

Wait, a Christian story about a ghost hunter!? Is that even possible? To be clear: it’s a ghost story based on Biblical definitions of ghosts and spirits! While ultimately, it's up to you to consider if it's the right choice for your family of readers, here's a note from the author that explains exactly what that means so you can make an educated decision: https://lgnixon.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/problemwithghosts.pdf

As mentioned, this is the second book in the series. Could you enjoy it as a standalone? Maybe, but I definitely think this is one in which readers will get the most out of the story when read in order for a more fully understanding as to what it is happening and who these characters are. As such, I'd definitely recommend reading book one first. The author does include a cast of characters and glossary of terms in the back of the book, which is super helpful if you need a refresh before or during reading.

Honestly, I don't typically read a lot of YA reads... as a thirty something, I'm certainly not the intended audience, but I have to say, this one is done well... it's intriguing and certainly captivated my interest just the same. I think this is definitely one that I absolutely would have gone crazy for as a younger reader too. Likewise, my daughter is looking forward to reading this one as well... it's definitely right up her alley. As a mom, I love that she can read a series that captivates her interest... while still pointing to scripture as well. I loved that at the end, the author also provided some points to think on (complete with references from the Bible) as well as a look at some scriptural references used in the story too.
