Sing Me Home by Callie Mae Shaw: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

The whole world wants a piece of him. He only wants her. If he only knew where she was.

Charlie

It’s better for everyone that I disappeared. At least, my ex thought so when he left me for dead.

Then Cash—my childhood best friend turned country music star—sings his heartbreak for the world, one song at a time. And somehow, I know…they’re all meant for me.

I tell myself none of it matters. That I can never have him. That if he knew my secret, he’d never look at me the same.

Then a viper with fake lashes and even faker intentions latches onto his fame, and suddenly, my excuses don’t matter. It’s time to stop hiding. Time to go home. Time to fight for the man who never stopped fighting for me.

Cash

I never doubted who I’d spend forever with. It was always Charlie. But when she vanishes…

I unravel.

So, I do the only thing I know how. I post love songs on TikTok, hoping to sing her home. It takes a year, but when she walks on stage at my concert, singing my song, I think she’s finally mine.

But she’s got secrets. Ones that make her flinch when I touch her, ones that make her push me away when I know she wants me too. Whatever she’s hiding, I’m going to figure it out. She needs to know she’s not facing this alone. Not anymore.

Perfect for readers longing for a heart-wrenching, first-love-that-never-got-a-chance story. Packed with angst, southern charm, forbidden longing, and found family, you’ll devour this romance about a girl who ran, a boy who waited, and the moment their worlds crash back together—louder than a stadium full of fans.

The Author

Susan is a sucker for any story if love's involved. When she's not writing, you can find her trying to get her adult children to text back, her teenage daughter to eat something not covered in chocolate, teaching fitness classes at the local gym, or cowgirling on her family's farm in rural Virginia.

Book Review

While Sing Me Home is technically the first book of the series, this is a second-generation series--- meaning we're now getting the stories of the now grown kids of the characters we first met in the original Seddledown series. While you could probably enjoy this one as a standalone, you will definitely be getting some spoilers from the original series, and I think will ultimately appreciate it more when you have that full family backstory so I would definitely recommend reading the original series first.

I do not know what Susan Henshaw (Callie Mae Shaw) is putting in her books... but I am hooked and absolutely cannot get enough of them! I was so thrilled to have the chance to catch up with the next generation of Duprees... and it absolutely did not disappoint! This family is perhaps my favorite fictional family of all time. Yes, they have their fair share of drama (perhaps more than their fair share, if we're being honest), but more than that they also love big and truly just bring so much heart (and humor) to the table. I love seeing that family dynamic between them, and this story reflected that love so beautifully. And then there's the romance. We got a little preview of Cash and Charlie's story in the bonus scene of It Was Nothing. This story picks up at the same point, but this time we see things from Cash's perspective. The way he loves Charlie... Oh. My. Goodness! We saw hints of that crush in the original series but seeing them all grown up and how deep that love truly ran... well, it was beautiful and took me on an emotional roller coaster right along with them. Their story was one filled with so much heartbreak and so many twists and turns that you're absolutely going to want to experience for yourself! If you love an emotional romance with a hard fought happily ever after, this is one you won't want to miss! This is easily a favorite of the year so far for me... I can't wait to see what will happen next!

Sing Me Home is a closed-door romance with detailed kisses and fade to black between a married couple. It does also have some innuendo and minor language as well. While this is not a Christian romance, faith is important to the Dupree family and that is evident in their story. This is a story that does not shy away from tough topics, so be sure to check out the author's note for potential triggers before reading.
