After a tense encounter with a mysterious stranger with otherworldly powers, a man is banished to a tyrannical, parallel Earth where he fights to get back to the woman he loves.

If you're reading this logline and thinking that this doesn't sound like the type of movie that I usually share about around here... well, you're not wrong. Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of reality fiction type movies... give me a good romance or something super heartfelt any day over alternate realities any day of the week! But I was given the chance to watch a screener of the movie and decided to give it a try anyway... and I must say, it surprised me.

Take a look:

About the Movie:
In The Shift, a dystopian drama and sci-fi thriller, one man is faced with infinite worlds and impossible choices. When Kevin Garner meets a nefarious adversary known as The Benefactor and refuses his offer of wealth and power, he must escape an alternate totalitarian reality. With survival on the line, Kevin fights to make it back to the world he knows and the woman he loves.

Yes, on the surface, this is definitely a sci-fi thriller and not one that I anticipated that I would find myself enjoying too horribly much... but I found as I watched it, I was completely drawn into the story and the beautiful messages it spoke of. Beyond the sci-fi, this truly is a story about love and faith... and oh what a beautiful story it was!

In the movie, Kevin is told by The Benefactor that he is not a good person... that anything good he has done cannot make up for the bad that he's done.

Do you ever feel like that?

I think that's a common feeling for so many of us... We know that God forgives and yet we hold onto things because we feel like we are not worthy of that. One of the biggest takeaways from this movie is simply this: we are more than the worst thing we have done

This is a message that I have seen in play a lot in this last year with people I care about and as such is a message that really resonated with me. I think this is a message that so many need to hear too. We are more than the low points, more than mistakes we've made or bad decisions and no matter how far we feel like we have fallen, we can be forgiven and don't have to let that define who we are.

This movie executed that message brilliantly and I found myself absolutely loving this movie... sci-fi and all.

Featuring Sean Astin (The Goonies, Rudy, The Lord of the Rings), Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers), and Elizabeth Tabish (The Chosen), THE SHIFT is a movie you and your friends won’t want to miss!
