About the Book

Author: Sofia Simpson

Genre: Young Adult Christian Fantasy

Elementals don’t mix. They fight over territories constantly and news of their battles is everywhere.

Vela, an Earth Elemental, wants two things: to make it through high school and one day run her very own flower shop. When Linc, a Fire Elemental, strolls into her life, she is immediately thrown into chaos when a bond flares up, connecting them forever. Linc pursues her relentlessly, for connections like this are rare, but Vela wants nothing to do with it or him.

With this news, Vela discovers she and Linc may be a part of an age-old prophecy that could change their world forever by uniting the warring clans. However, a powerful group does not want their pairing to exist, for if it does, the prophecy may come true.

Vela and Linc must keep their bond a secret, for their lives are at risk if it is made public.

Can Vela deny a bond that could unite the battling clans, finally providing peace after centuries of conflict? Will she allow herself to love an enemy?

About the Author

Sofia grew up moving constantly. Never in one place more than three years, there was plenty of time to daydream during long car rides. College finally gave her a chance to study what she had always dreamed of doing, writing her stories.

She obtained a B.A. in Journalism, married her handsome husband and had two amazing sons. She’s also the proud mother of a 100-pound red rust Doberman who loves to chase around his sister, a fluffy-not-fat-cat.

A big believer in dreaming big, Sofia loves speaking to youth, encouraging them to find hope no matter what their life looks like. Sofia is a daughter of the Lord first and foremost and finds inspiration with stories like King David and Esther.

More from Sofia

I became a Young Adult Christian Fantasy Author so that I could add clean content to the world of Young Adult books. I love writing a great love story, and here’s one that will meet all your expectations of a great enemies-to-lovers romance without the spice. I love writing a story that mixes faith with fantasy, much like Morgan Busse, Nadine Brandes and Sara Ella. And if you’re wondering if the butterfly on the cover has any significance at all? Why, yes, yes it does. Read Terra to find out why.

Author Interview

Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?

  1. I am a closet grandma- I love to cross stitch, I am doing one currently that will take me years to complete. But it’s for my son, so it’s worth it. He picked out the design and I’m trying to finish it before he graduates this year.
  2. I am super competitive. In fact, I had to quit playing local team tennis because I kept losing. It was too much for my fragile ego to bear.
  3. Coffee is a staple in my diet. I drink 3 cups a day, two in the morning and one in the afternoon. I spend a small fortune on coffee pods for my Keurig.
  4. I love to drink hot drinks while I write. It’s almost like it turns on my brain to start writing. I compare it to Pavlov’s dogs. When I have a hot drink on my desk, it’s time to write.
  5. I hardly read non-fiction. I feel like it’s a trust issue. I have to really believe in the author to take in their words and advice. But it’s mainly because I don’t like people telling me what to do. Prideful much? I know, it’s bad.

If you had to describe your main character(s) in just three words, what would they be?

Pragmatic yet idealistic. A challenger. Vela sees things in black and white, yet she’s hopeful for the best to happen. And she constantly challenges herself to be the best she can be. She doesn’t settle for second best. Not when it comes to making herself better.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life?

Integrating faith in Terra’s world. I wanted it to be uplifting, but I didn’t want it to bash you over the head with my Christian views. I wanted it to be in the happy medium. It’s easier said than done because on every page I wanted to shout how wonderful life with God really is. I had to reign myself in.

What was the most rewarding?

It was in my fifth draft that I finally brought my character to forgive wounds she had long carried. I don’t know why it took me so long to get there, but when I did, it felt like I won a great prize. I knew then that my story was complete. It was missing that scene the entire time.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

That life with God is rich, rewarding, and more fulfilling than anything they’d find in the world. Also, I’d love for my readers to see that love when earned is a beautiful thing. There are so many books out there featuring unhealthy relationships. That’s not reality to make that kind of thing work. I wanted to provide a story that showcases love that didn’t start out with instalove, but it became one that is beautiful to read. It certainly was to write.
