Run and don't look back.
I'll find you when it's safe.

Those were the last words Holly whispered to her six year old foster sister before the little girl fled into the trees and disappeared from existence.

Fifteen years later, Cassandra Ward is still missing.

Holly is haunted by the possibility that she sent her foster sister running from one monster and into the clutches of another. How else could a child vanish without a trace?

Determined to find her, Holly sifts through her own dark memories for clues, revisits her past, and chases a lead across the country with Jordan by her side. But the search for Cassie takes a dangerous turn when an altercation in the mountains leaves them stranded, cut off from the outside world, and running for their lives.

Lovers of books by Lynette Eason, Terri Blackstock, and Natalie Walters will enjoy this latest thrilling installment of The Holly Novels, and might even stay up all night reading.

About the Author

C.C. Warrens

Jesus and laughter have brought C.C. Warrens through some very difficult times in life, and she weaves both into every story she writes, creating a world of breath-stealing intensity, laugh-out-loud humor, and a sparkle of hope. Writing has been a slowly blossoming dream inside her for most of her life until one day it spilled out onto the pages that would become her first published book.

If she’s not writing, she’s attempting to bake something—however catastrophic that might be—or she’s enjoying the beauty of the outdoors with her husband. One of the many things she’s learned since she started this journey is that the best way to write a book is to go on a long stroll with her husband. That is when the characters—from their backgrounds to the moments that make them laugh or bubble over with anger—come to life.

Author Interview

Welcome, C.C.! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book Crossroads.

I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?

Five random facts about me…hmm.

  1. I am a fuzzy socks addict. I’m always hunting for high quality, fuzzy knit socks in different colors.
  2. I would eat popcorn every day if I could.
  3. As much as I love dogs, I’m still a cat person. I think it’s a size issue. My cats get excited to see me, but they don’t knock me over or trample me in their excitement. We just have quiet cuddles.
  4. I love the beach but refused to go in the ocean. Something about me is a jellyfish magnet. Those squishy devils hunt me down.
  5. I am not a morning person. I am also not a coffee person. It’s best to avoid me until noon, when I’ve stopped dropping and spilling everything I touch.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?

I started writing short stories around junior high to entertain myself, but it was also a great form of therapy for a kid with a lot to work through. I became really passionate about it in high school, and it became my secret hobby during college and the years afterwards until my husband encouraged me to share my work.

What drew you to writing Christian suspense?

I actually had no idea Christian fiction was a thing before I finished writing my first book, Criss Cross. I knew I loved suspense and mysteries, but I was tired of all the language and explicit content in secular fiction, so I decided to write my own. I was so worried there was no place for it in the world and that no one would read it.

I’m always curious about the search history of authors, especially suspense authors! What is the most suspicious thing we’d find in your search history?

How to stab someone and severely wound them without killing them.

What does your writing routine look like?

I actually don’t have a set routine. I daydream a lot while walking and usually come back and write something, but it’s very sporadic. Whenever my imagination kicks on, and I have free time, I write.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Crossroads

Crossroads is the 5th installment of The Holly Novels, and it follows Holly Cross—a Christian, trauma survivor with a penchant for marshmallows and mysteries. She works with her childhood best friend at an investigative agency, and they found a lead on Holly’s foster sister who went missing fifteen years earlier. The investigation leads them to West Virginia, where they run into a lot of trouble.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding?

I can’t say much about the most challenging part without giving away important details, but parts of this book deal with a subject I find deeply uncomfortable. I had planned to write the story two years ago, but I wasn’t ready, so I shuffled the books a bit so I could push it back until I was.

The most rewarding part is having another completed book and seeing the joy it brings my advanced readers.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

This book has stronger faith elements than my others, and I hope it encourages readers to open their Bibles more. It also addresses trauma and how the victim is never to blame, and I hope that comforts and encourages someone who is struggling with that issue.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Before you go, where can readers follow along to see what’s coming next?
