While it seems it's been winter for ages, spring is slowly making it's arrival. With the arrival of spring brings the anticipation of Easter.

While the stores may lead us to believe that Easter is all about chocolate bunnies and brightly colored eggs, as Christians we know that the real celebration of Easter is better than any candy or basket could ever hope to be. We celebrate Easter to remember Jesus' death and resurrection... the sacrifice He made upon that cross for each and every one of us.

How are your preparing your hearts and minds for the Easter season?

There are many great devotionals and Bible studies that we can turn to, but for those who are more visual, why not take in a great movie to leave you inspired?

Pure Flix offers a great variety of clean, faith filled entertainment, including some must sees for the Easter season. One such example is the memorable “The Passion of The Christ” (Available only from  March 20 to April 19, 2022).

I first watched The Passion of the Christ many years ago as a teenager. I remember being moved to tears at this beautiful and all too realistic depiction of Jesus' life, highlighting His final hours, with flashbacks to His life and ministry.

“Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from the cross and save yourself!” In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him. – Mark 15:29-32 (NIV)

We can read these words and try to grasp the enormity of their meaning over and over, but for me I must say that seeing it played out in such a real and vivid way really drove that home. Rewatching again recently as an adult, I still find myself moved to tears... perhaps even more so now that I have had more time to grow in my faith and understand better God's love and sacrifice than I did upon the first watching. This is certainly not an easy movie to watch, and I'm not even sure I would call it enjoyable... but it certainly is an important one, especially at this time of year.

Of course, anyone who has seen the movie can agree that this depiction is quite graphic. Pure Flix has the full version, as seen in theaters and as such is suitable only for mature audiences, not one to be enjoyed with the whole family.

For younger or more sensitive audiences, there are still plenty of options from documentaries to kids films that are both fun an educational. There are even options like “The Passion: A Brickfilm” that bring these Bible stories to life using Lego characters, something my own kids are excited to check out soon!
