About the Author

Maggie Philpot wrote her first children’s story when she was in middle school (a story about an egg named Eggbert) and she has been dreaming up stories ever since. She lives in Fort Worth with her spectacular husband (whom she calls Husband), her two precocious children, and a rather ridiculous dog, Tucker. She is passionate about anything and anyone who attempts to make beauty, order, and meaning in this crazy world. The simple act of writing is one way to do just that.

My Thoughts

As much as I love ALL of the festivities that come along with the holiday season, as a mom one of the things that is most important to me is making sure that my children know and understand the reason that our family celebrates the holiday. I like finding ways to keep Christ in the center of all of it. The God Is Coming: An Advent Journey is really a great way to do that.

Each day's reading has a beautiful poem and illustration that children young and old can appreciate. While you certainly could just read these poems, if you flip to the back, you'll find a corresponding scripture for each day, as well as some questions to think about and really help you dig into the holiday season. My kids have a pretty large age gap between them, and finding family devotions or advent activities or anything of that nature that appeals to them both can be fairly challenging. I feel like this particular one does work well for a variety of ages. If you are looking for a good advent devotional for your family, this is certainly a good one to check out.
