My Thoughts

As I started to read Autumn's Harmony, I couldn't help but feel like this felt different than the many other Christian fiction novels I am accustomed to reading. In the beginning especially it really felt more like a mainstream contemporary women's fiction. There were a few reasons for this.

First of all, the leading lady in this story is not a Christian, nor are any of the initial characters we are introduced to. While the heroines in Christian fiction are not always Christians at the start of their stories, it does seem like they already have someone close to them that is. It seems to me that it was not until probably halfway through the story or so until we're introduced to Christian characters.

The second reason is that it was perhaps a bit more colorful in the language department than one might expect from the genre. Don't get me wrong, it is still pretty clean but there are a handful of curse words used, as well as some pretty colorful discussions of Victoria's Secret and references (without much detail) given to the intimate aspects of married life.

Still, I think it was this less than perfect aspect of the story really made Anna's story feel all the more real. As a reader you couldn't help but feel her heartache and pray that she would find the happiness she was looking for. While it was a fictional story, it felt very much true to life and I loved that. Anna wasn't the only character that felt real to me... I so enjoyed the side characters as well. I must admit a few of them even reminded me of some special people in my own life, which is perhaps another reason I was drawn in as much as I was. Though it felt a bit slower paced, it was still a fairly quick read and one that I honestly wasn't quite ready to end.

If you enjoy a story that reminds us of God's grace and forgiveness, and will encourage and inspire... this is certainly one to check out.
