Creating the Perfect Gaming Space in Your Home

So, you're considering creating a space in your home for gaming. If you or anyone in your family spends a significant gaming, this can be a great idea allowing you to take back your living space. But... where do you begin in creating such a space? Today, I'm sharing a few things to keep in mind when creating the perfect space for gaming in your home.

Consider What Type of Gaming You Prefer

Before getting started on your room, you must first consider what type of gaming you intend to do in your space. Computer? Console? Tabletop games? A combination of these? Determining the type of gaming you want the space to be for will greatly impact other decisions for the room--- such as room size, atmosphere and decor and equipment needed.

Choose Your Room

As mentioned, the type of gaming you intend to use the room for is an important consideration when deciding on what space to use. If you plan only to do PC gaming, a much smaller amount of space is needed whereas console or tabletop gaming are going to require a bit more room. Also, think about who will be using this room. If you plan to invite others to game with you, you'll want to make sure to have plenty of space. An unused bedroom is one possibility, but for more room you might consider a finished basement, an attic or loft area or even a heated garage.

Invest in the Right Equipment

You can have the coolest looking game room, but without the proper equipment it will all be for naught. For console gaming, you'll want to be certain to have a good TV, sound and of course, the console(s) of choice. For PC gaming, you'll want a monitor (or multiples), a good gaming computer with adequate PC Cooling Fans, speakers, etc. Unless you already have everything needed, this is likely going to be the most expensive part of your gaming room, but that doesn't mean it has to break the bank. You can often find great deals on high quality TVs at open box prices. Take advantage of a good gaming desktop sale to get the best of the best in gaming essentials at much better prices.

Make It Comfortable

While I'm not much of a gamer myself, one thing that I've learned from my husband is that a good gaming chair makes gaming all the more enjoyable. Whether it's a gaming chair for console gaming or a top of the line desk chair, you'll be much happier gaming in comfort. Don't forget about seating for guests if needed as well.

Choose Your Decor

No room is complete without the appropriate decorations. The style of your gaming room is only limited to your imagination (and okay, budget too!). My son is obsessed with old school video games, so his game room would reflect the same--- lots of collectibles from his favorite games like Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man, etc as well as a display of her large collection of consoles both new and old. If that's not your thing, you can have it decked out in a sleek, high tech style instead with fun lighting to set the mood you want.

If you follow these tips, with a little thought and time you can have the perfect gaming space to fit your gaming needs and truly be the coolest place to be.

Do you have your own gaming space? What other tips would you share? What would your dream game room look like? Tell me about it in the comments below.
