Hi Tanya! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your new book- A Ranger for the Twins a little bit better! I usually start these interviews with 5 random facts about YOU, but since this is our second interview together we’ll mix it up a bit. Can you tell us 5 random facts about this new book?

Thank you so much for hosting me on your blog today!

5 random facts about A Ranger for the Twins:

1. Caleb’s scoliosis backstory was inspired from actual headlines as one of my favorite tennis players was diagnosed with severe scoliosis when he was a teenager.

2. Lucie’s bulldog, Ladybug, is a tribute to my college alma mater, The University of Georgia.

3. I have a scar on my right wrist as a result of a ropes course I attended with my college youth group, and the setting revolves around Lucie’s retreat center, which has an outdoor ropes course.

4. My older daughter participated in a school activity where the leader owned a pet miniature pig named Butters, who is one of the more unusual pets I’ve met. That inspired me to write in Fred and Ethel, a pair of miniature pigs. I love researching about miniature pigs, and some really do count an outdoor shed or similar structure as their home! It was one of the most fun days of research looking up stories of miniature pigs and then letting my imagination go from there.

5. While the Timber River Woodpecker is not a real species of bird, it is based on the real life Red-Cockaded Woodpecker.

You moved around a lot as a kid, and as such I’m sure met quite the variety of people with various personalities. Has that experience helped with creating your stories at all?

I’ve been fortunate to live in different areas, including small towns, tourist areas, and urban areas. For me, moving around a lot made me reflect on what makes a home – is it family, roots, or something else? And those questions are often reflected in the themes of my books.

The old saying goes ‘write what you know’ and as a mom of twins, it seems like you did with this new novel. Did any of your real life stories with your own twins make it into this book?

I hope you can hear me chuckling at this one. The short answer is yes and no. I remember when my twins were babies in a double stroller and this teenager came over and looked at them, one wrapped in pink and one in blue. He asked if they were fraternal twins, then apologized and said he hoped he wasn’t being too personal. It turned out he was an identical twin and expressed his hope they wouldn’t be as competitive with each other as he and his twin were. He talked a little bit more before he smiled and left. However, that conversation has always stuck with me as there is a stereotype that many twins think and act alike. I used this competition aspect in the book, but then I went bigger. There’s a scene where Ethan loses his tooth and Mattie is afraid people will no longer think they’re twins. That’s not a real life story, but it was drawn from my twins’ observations that people are no longer picking up on the fact they’re twins. That’s a bond they’ll always have (whether they want to admit it or not!), and that scene is pivotal for Caleb to recognize he has something of value to pass on to the twins in terms of life experience. He cares for the twins, and by gaining confidence with them, he can gain confidence in his relationship with Lucie.

Can you tell us a little bit about A Ranger for the Twins?

It’s an uplifting story about finding treasures in unexpected places. For Lucie that treasure is redeeming herself after difficult circumstances rip her life apart. For Caleb it’s finding people who accept him for who he is rather than circumstances which elevated him in some people’s eyes. At the heart of it all, it’s a happy story about redemption and never giving up hope.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

The themes of hope and redemption go hand-in-hand. Hope can often bring light and redemption even if we don’t see it in front of us until something makes it rise to the surface.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

The next book in the series, The Soldier’s Unexpected Family, comes out in March. The heroine is Natalie Harrison, who is one of Lucie’s best friends as well as Mike’s sister (Mike is the hero of The Sheriff’s Second Chance). And I’m writing the story of Caleb’s cousin Jonathan now.
