The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus by Jaime Jo Wright {Book Review}

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

1928
The Bonaventure Circus is a refuge for many, but Pippa Ripley was rejected from its inner circle as a baby. When she receives mysterious messages from someone called the "Watchman," she is determined to find him and the connection to her birth. As Pippa's search leads her to a man seeking justice for his murdered sister and evidence that a serial killer has been haunting the circus train, she must decide if uncovering her roots is worth putting herself directly in the path of the killer.

Present Day
The old circus train depot will either be torn down or preserved for historical importance, and its future rests on real estate project manager Chandler Faulk's shoulders. As she dives deep into the depot's history, she's also balancing a newly diagnosed autoimmune disease and the pressures of single motherhood. When she discovers clues to the unsolved murders of the past, Chandler is pulled into a story far darker and more haunting than even an abandoned train depot could portend.

There's something about a circus that never fails to captivate isn't there? On the one hand, it brings about the sense of joy, laughter and childhood with it's over the top and larger than life performances. Still on the other hand, it brings a sense of mystery, fear and darkness. Both of these are certainly very real parts of the history of the circus, and this book encompasses that history in a beautifully written dual timeline novel that I was unable to put down.

In this story, we meet two women from very different times. Pippa is the daughter of the Bonaventure Circus' owner Richard Ripley, having been left on his doorstep by a member of his own circus as an infant. As such, she has always struggled with her identity and where she belonged. We follow her as she learns more about her past and mysterious goings on surrounding the circus in 1928. During the present time, we meet Chandler- a single mom who is working to renovate the old circus train depot and finds herself being haunted by these mysteries of the past. Both of their stories intertwine in this fantastically written novel filled with wonder and mystery.

Jaime Jo Wright is a fairly new to me author. I had only read one book from her before this one, but it was enough to make me want to pick this one up by name alone. If there was any doubt in my mind that she was one I needed to read more from, this book certainly solidified that for me. She has such a unique writing style that I cannot help but love. The dual timelines are filled with such great mystery that truly is unlike any others I have read. I absolutely, positively cannot wait to read more.

If you love a book filled with long ago secrets and mysteries, this is definitely one to check out!
