Hi Lisa! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your new book- A Love Redeemed a little bit better!  I always like to start these interviews the same way with something fun! Tell us 5 random facts about you we WON’T find in your bio.

Thanks for having me! Five random things not in my professional bio:

1.
My husband and I had a unique courtship…we dated long distance for eighteen months, getting to know one another through letters, phone calls, and not nearly enough in-person visits. Tired of being apart, we eloped and will celebrate thirty-one years of marriage in October.

2.
I have a severe phobia of snakes.

3.
I spent 20 years in early childhood education. I went back to college later in life and graduated at the age of 40 with my degree in early childhood education. My oldest son graduated a month later from high school.

4.
      I’ve never read a Jane Austen novel (*gasp* I know…I know…)

5.
I have enough stamping/card making/ crafting supplies to outfit a small store. (Shhh, don’t tell my husband.) Stamping is my therapy.

Let’s talk writing! You have been writing for Love Inspired since 2011. After 9 years, how do you continue to find new inspiration?

Honestly, I never have problems coming up with a story idea. In fact, I have a file on my computer of book ideas waiting to be written. My struggles come with brainstorming those ideas into saleable stories and creating that necessary conflict to keep the reader turning the pages. But thankfully I have a great writing tribe who helps me brainstorm when I need it.

Your first novel Lakeside Reunion was quite a process from idea to publication. Can you share that moment of excitement to learn your words were finally to be published? How has that excitement changed from that first book to the most recent?

On January 7th at 3 PM, my agent called and said, “Lisa, today is your lucky day.” I sobbed. I cried so hard my husband thought someone had died. Earlier that week I had told God I was so tired of waiting. I was done. I needed an answer, even if it was no. The Lord spoke to me through a friend and nudged me to clear my plate because He had plans for me. So on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week, I stepped down from various ministries and responsibilities at church, said no to some family things, and then waited. I got the call on Friday that Melissa Endlich had read my novel and wanted to offer me a contract. Other than my wedding date and the births of our boys, it’s one of my happiest memories ever. Now when I get book contracts, I praise God and celebrate another milestone, but there’s no sobbing involved. I’m so blessed to be doing something I love.

In addition to being a writer, you are also an early childhood educator, how do you make time to prioritize writing? What does that writing routine look like for you?

I was an early childhood educator until 2017. After being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, it had become too difficult to maintain my in-home early learning program, and honestly, I was facing burnout. I prayed and asked God for a job that would help bring in money to meet our daily budget and I could work from home. God answered in the most amazing, unexpected way. Since June 2017, I’ve been the operations manager for Novel Academy, an online writing academy powered by My Book Therapy, which was founded by award-winning, multipublished author, Susan May Warren, who is one of my writing mentors. Working for her has been an answer to prayer and the perfect job for me. I also care for my adult niece who has special needs. So my days are still pretty busy. I write in the evenings after dinner. I usually write from 7-9PM and while it’s not a lot of time, my daily goal is to write a scene, which is about 1500-2000 words. When I’m one deadline, I do spend more time writing to ensure I submit on time.

Can you tell us a little bit about A Love Redeemed?

A Love Redeemed is a story of what it means to trust God when your life falls apart. How do you move forward when the love you’ve known is gone?

Here’s the back cover copy:

Just-for-now could become forever…

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

I hope readers will remember God has a plan and a purpose for each of us. Life never goes according to our plans, but God’s plans are perfect. If we keep trusting him through the heartaches and life’s challenges, then He will provide a hope and a future for each of us.

I have found that writers are often some of the best readers as well. If we were to take a look at your own TBR, what would we find there?

My favorite fiction authors include (in no particular order): Susan May Warren, Rachel Hauck, Melissa Tagg, Beth Vogt, Tari Faris, Carla Laureano, Mindy Obenhaus, Joanne Bischoff, Lisa Wingate, Katie Ganshert, Becky Wade, Courtney Walsh

I’ve also been reading some non-fiction lately, and I love Mark Batterson, Rick Warren, Crystal Stine, and Jordan Raynor

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

Thank you for hosting me. I love talking writing and books. I just submitted book 3 in the Holland Brothers series, which will be Evan’s story. I’m brainstorming Micah’s book—the last brother. I’ve submitted a women’s fiction to my agent for a new line coming out...waiting to hear about that. I’m brainstorming a new series for Love Inspired and a new series for a different Harlequin imprint. So I have a lot of things going on…and not nearly enough time to get everything written.
