Sharks, sharks, everywhere!

From baby sharks to beach gear to shark week... it seems like sharks truly are everywhere. Kids and adults alike just cannot get enough of these fascinating and sometimes scary creatures! Sound like a kid in your home? If so, National Geographic Kids has a great variety of books to add to your collection. We were recently sent a set to try out for ourselves.

First up, The Ultimate Book of Sharks. This book--- as the name suggests--- really IS the ultimate book about sharks. It is packed full with interesting facts about these underwater creatures. Kids and grown ups alike are sure to learn something new about the wide varieties of shark species out there. With stunning imagery and fun facts, this is definitely a must for the ultimate shark fan.

Next up, National Geographic Readers: Sharks! Now, while this one has a good bit of information for a small book, it's definitely not as comprehensive as the previous. It is however perfect for those early readers to read all on their own. It is a level 2 reader. We personally love this type of book because I can know right away if my daughter will be able to tackle this without help!

Little Kids First Big Book of the Ocean is up next and is a great addition to your collection for those younger kids (4-8 or so). This book covers not just sharks, but a wide variety of ocean topics as well. These Little Kids books still offer a ton of information, but are a little better suited for younger kids as far as what they can understand.

Extreme Ocean: Amazing Animals, High-Tech Gear, Record-Breaking Depths and Much More is another fantastic read. This is another that covers sharks and other interesting animals in addition to other extreme underwater topics. This one really appealed to my 12 year old more than many of the others.

And finally, So Cool! Sharks. This one is the shortest and easiest of the shark books--- perfect for both early readers and pre-readers as well. It doesn't have as much information packed in... but it might just be the most fun of the bunch. We couldn't get enough of seeing what the shark had to say on each page with it's fun voice/thought bubbles.

In my house, National Geographic Kids books never fail to be a favorite. The kids love them because they are fun--- the images inside are large and eye-catching, really helping to captivate their minds. The facts includes are often fun and unusual so it actually makes learning much more fun for them. That to me is the most important thing--- seeing them learn. These books are a great way to learn more about sharks and other ocean adventures. While we enjoy them just because, I could certainly see these being a great addition to classrooms or homeschool curriculum as well. We simply cannot get enough.
