Hi Tanya! Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your book- The Sheriff’s Second Chance- a little bit better. I always like to begin these interviews the same way with something fun… tell us 5 random facts about yourself that we WON’T find in your bio!

Thank you so much for having me. Five random facts about me:

1.
I went from Z to A in alphabetical order when I married my wonderful husband.2.      I started talking when my father was stationed in Germany.3.      I still own my collection of Trixie Belden books I collected and read as a tween.4.      I attended two events at the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, including the same basketball game as David Hasselhoff, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Muhammad Ali.5.      I’m deaf in the left ear and always try to walk alongside the left side of people so I can hear them better.

Let’s talk writing! When did you first discover that you had a passion for writing?

When I was in first grade, my teacher asked us to write a story and turned all of them into books with cardboard covers wrapped in fabric. I still have mine! In high school, I filled notebook after notebook with stories. However, I didn’t become serious about writing until my older son was in kindergarten. It was then I wanted to figure out a way to transfer the stories I’d been creating in my head for years onto paper. After a month of writing at the library, I told my husband what I was doing, and he told me it was about time since he’d known I wanted to write for years. Then, we found out the wonderful news we were expecting. I thought I’d be able to hold a baby in one hand and type with the other. Early on, we learned we were expecting twins. When they started attending Mother’s Morning Out, I realized I needed to get serious about my passion for writing. I started attending writer’s workshops, wrote everywhere including parking lots and doctor’s offices, and asked other writers for critiques. Since then, I’ve called myself a write-at-home mom.

As a mom of four, life must be busy! What does your writing routine look like? How do you make the time?

Life is certainly busy, and I’m thankful for that! I drive my older son to high school and then head to Panera Bread or the library to write for the morning and early afternoon until it’s time to pick up my twins from elementary school. My critique partner is a teacher, and we often talk about how she writes more in the summer and I try to work in as much editing as I can during those months as that’s easier to accomplish with my kids in the same house. My husband also helps out on weekends when I need to finish projects. On special days like today, which is a rare snow day in Georgia, I went outside and enjoyed the snow this morning. Then I worked on some writing tasks with the door closed but, in return, I played a board game with my twins during a break and tonight is movie night. During that time, though, I’m present and with them rather than writing.

The Sheriff’s Second Chance is your debut novel, congratulations! Can you share what this experience has been like for you? What was your reaction to finding out it was going to be published and to seeing your words in print for the first time?

It’s been a dream come true. I’m thankful my older daughter and husband were home when I received the call from my agent, who wisely told me to enjoy the day and not write! It was a wonderful feeling to tell my other three children, especially my twins who have always told people their mommy is a writer. Seeing my words in print and holding my book in my hands was a thrill. I hope people enjoy the book because I had the best time writing Georgie and Mike’s story.

Can you tell us a little bit about The Sheriff’s Second Chance?

It’s a story of second chances and hope. In the book, police officer and single dad Mike Harrison doesn’t believe in second chances until he learns that his former best friend—gorgeous green-eyed car mechanic Georgie Bennett—is back in town. To his dismay, she’s the prime suspect in the burglary at the garage where she works. When he believes the only way to bridge the growing gap between himself and his daughter is to restore and sell his grandfather’s classic Thunderbird, he turns to Georgie to help restore the car and possibly their friendship as well. Both have to learn that almost anything can be restored with a little patience…and a whole lot of love.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

I hope they take away it’s never too late for a second chance along with laughter, a few out-of-the-box twists, and maybe a new favorite character or two.

This sounds like a fantastic read, and I cannot wait to read it myself...I love a good second chance romance story!  I have found that writers are so often some of the best readers too. If we were to take a look at your TBR, what might we find there?

I love to read and my TBR pile is huge. I love Harlequin Heartwarming and Love Inspired as well as cozy mysteries. I just started Belle Calhoune’s Her Secret Alaskan Family. Up next I have a Rachel Dylan inspirational romantic suspense, Sharee Stover’s Silent Night Suspect, Claire McEwen’s After the Rodeo, and I can’t wait to read Rula Sinara’s Caught by the Sheriff.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions. Before we go, can you give us an idea on what we can look forward to next? Any projects you are currently working on that you can share?

I just turned in Lucie’s story so I hope you can look forward to her book, which centers on redemption and hope and features a few surprises. I’m currently writing Mike’s sister Natalie’s story, which focuses on unexpected changes and how those can bring love and a sense of wonder even in the most uncertain of times.
