Hi Rebecca! Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your novel- Breathing On Her Own- a little bit better. I always like to begin these interviews the same way with something fun… tell us 5 random facts about yourself that we WON’T find in your bio!

1.         I love any activity on or near the water.
2.         Six of my eight grandchildren call me “Doll” but two of them recently started calling me “Bob” just to be different.
3.         I’ve been in 49 of the 50 states in the US (Alaska’s on my list.)
4.         I’ve taken a cruise down the Nile.
5.         I think I could eat my weight in popcorn.

Let’s talk writing! Before you started your career as a writer, you taught at Cincinnati Christian University for many years. At what point did you realize that God was calling you to something different? How did that decision come about?

Actually, my husband’s health made it clear we needed to take an early retirement. While he was prepared to golf and fish every day, I knew I needed something more. I had always wanted to publish so I researched the field, crafted a rather rough business plan and started writing. God affirmed that decision when I immediately started getting articles published in Chicken Soup for the Soul and in a variety of magazines and journals. Six months after making that prayerful decision, I received my a contract for Breathing on Her Own.

Breathing On Her Own was your first novel, released originally in 2014 (and re-released with a new look in 2019). Can you share that experience when you learned that your novel was going to be published or seeing your book in print for the first time?

That was a wonderful time in our lives. My husband was as excited as I was about it. When the books arrived, we were living in Florida. To hold your first book in your hand is exhilarating. It gave me energy to continue writing.

Did you find that it was less exciting the second time around, or is the experience still surreal to you?

I was more touched by the re-release than I expected. My husband died suddenly form injuries sustained in a bicycle accident only a few months after Breathing on Her Own was initially released. I was devastated. And I felt the ink had run out of my pen. When the folks at the Emerald Group designed the cover, it took my breath away. The man on the cover could pass for my own husband…right down his calves!

Can you tell us a little bit about Breathing On Her Own? What do you hope readers will take away from this book?

I know from some readers that the book has given them pause to examine their own faith walk. Anytime an author can facilitate that sort of genuine thinking about a person’s relationship with God, it is a win.

I find that writers are so often some of the best readers too. If we were to take a look at your TBR, what might we find there?
I just started The Guardians by John Grisham. On my nightstand I have Francine Rivers’ Bridge to Haven, Ted Dekker’s The 49th Mystic, and Tamera Lynn Kraft’s Red Over America waiting for me. Four books. Four different genres.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions. Before we go, can you give us an idea on what we can look forward to next? Any projects you are currently working on that you can share?

I have another book out called Libby’s Cuppa Joe  and I am currently working on a romantic series set in my hometown of Lutz, Florida.
