Simple Ways to Transform Your Sedentary Lifestyle to an Active One

Today, a sedentary lifestyle is becoming more and more of the norm. As more people work from home, it’s become possible to simply work from your sofa all day, or perhaps you work in an office job where you’re at your desk from nine until five. Maybe you’re studying for an online degree from home. Whatever the reason, more people are spending their time sitting down rather than getting physically active, and sometimes we have little choice in the matter, for example, if you work at a desk or are busy studying. Thankfully, there are many simple things that everybody can do to achieve a more active lifestyle.

Walk More:

When it comes to being active, walking is something that won’t use up too much energy at once, so you’ll be able to continue easily with the rest of your day without feeling overly tired. If possible, it’s a good idea to walk to anywhere that’s in walking distance, or even push yourself and go a little further if you have the time and will enjoy it. Or, you could even get a puppy, which will need regular walks every day and encourage you to be more active. And, don’t forget that walking more is great for the environment and your bank account.

Try Yoga:

Yoga can be much more physically taxing than you may realise, and the best thing about it is that you can do it from the comfort of your own home. Check out Yoga Selection at yogaselection.com for a range of online classes, programs, tips and how-to guides to get you started with teaching yourself yoga from the comfort of your own home and in your own time. All you’ll need is enough space to stretch out in, comfortable and stretchy clothes, a yoga mat, and a TV or laptop screen to follow along.

Get a Fitness Buddy:

Working out on your own can quickly get boring, and without anybody there to encourage you and cheer you on, you can get disheartened more easily and might not think twice about cutting your workout short, whether it’s a short walk or a session in the gym. Instead, find somebody to work out with - perhaps a friend, work colleague or even a family member – and to join you, as it will make exercising a much more enjoyable, social activity.

Cycle:

Getting a bicycle is definitely a great investment, as not only will you save money on cycling rather than driving or taking public transport, but you will also get fitter as a result of becoming more active. Cycling is a very enjoyable activity, however, be sure that you use the proper protective gear such as lights, reflective or high visibility clothing, and a helmet, whether you’re cycling on quiet or busy roads. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

If you don’t have the time or the budget to get to the gym regularly, don’t worry! These are just some great ways to move and exercise more, even if you work at a sedentary desk job.
