Romance or mystery? When it comes to the books you read, which do you choose?

If you ask me, there's no reason to choose. I love them both and have found that my favorite reads lately have been those that effortlessly incorporate the two. Elizabeth Goddard's new book 'Never Let Go' certainly fits that bill:

As a forensic genealogist, Willow Anderson is following in her late grandfather's footsteps in her quest for answers about a baby abducted from the hospital more than twenty years ago. The case may be cold, but things are about to heat up when someone makes an attempt on her life to keep her from discovering the truth.
Ex-FBI agent--and Willow's ex-flame--Austin McKade readily offers his help to protect the woman he never should have let get away. Together they'll follow where the clues lead them, even if it means Austin must face the past he's spent much of his life trying to forget. And even if it puts Willow's tender heart at risk.
In this fast-paced and emotional page-turner, bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard keeps the stakes high, the romantic tension sparking, and the outcome uncertain until the very end.

This was a fantastic read! Right from the start I found myself drawn into the mysteries and wondering what was going to happen next!

I must say that what first drew me in was the idea of a 'forensic genealogist'. Now, I've watched many a crime shows that brought up a wide variety of forensic specialties, but this is one that I'd certainly never heard of. My own my is very into genealogy and I've seen the research and work that can go into that so I found that idea just very compelling. Still, it was the story and the characters that really made it a great read. We start off with a mystery that is 20 years old--- an abduction of an infant from the hospital. This is really hard for many of us to imagine these days with all of the security measures in place, but it certainly made for a captivating story. In the search for this missing child after so many years later, Willow finds herself in danger. Who took this child, and what are they trying to stop her from finding?

Mixed into all the action and adventure, is a fantastic love story--- one that I couldn't get enough of. As a Christian fiction book, we can of course feel confident that there will be nothing inappropriate, which can be hard to find in romantic suspense otherwise. As such, I loved seeing the faith of the characters throughout as well. Flawed as they were, you could tell that their faith was important to them. It wasn't in your face, but simply a part of their lives and thought processes. As a Christian myself, I appreciated this but I truly believe that non-Christians alike could very much enjoy reading this book without feeling 'preached to'.

Overall, it was a great read and I cannot wait to read more from the author.
