The year is still just beginning and while it might seem a little bit late in the game, many of us are still thinking about how we can improve all areas in our lives in this year. We think about diet, we think about work, we think about fitness... but what about our sleep?

The reality is that sleep is an area where many of us struggle. That poor sleep pattern can keep us from accomplishing all of those other goals that we hope to accomplish--- keeping us from having the energy and focus to get it done. There are many ways that we can help improve our sleep habits, but perhaps one of the easier changes to make? Creating a more relaxing sleep environment. Here are a few simple tips to get started:

  • Get Rid of Distractions. I must admit that I am guilty of this one myself. So many of us use our phones as an alarm, or like to keep them bedside in case of emergency... but then find ourselves browsing through social media when we should be sleeping. Putting the phone out of reach can be a great way to fight that temptation.
  • Check the Temperature. Nothing can make sleep impossible for me than a room that is too warm! In fact, many-myself included-prefer it a little bit on the chilly side (all the more reason to pile on the soft blankets). A small fan can be a great addition to the room if needed to help with the temp and create some white noise too.
  • Black It Out. Now, I'll be honest, I find I personally prefer a small bit of light when I sleep, but for many others they prefer it to be total darkness. Blackout curtains can be great for that, or use a sleep mask if necessary. For my oldest child, a sleep mask over his eyes has made a world of difference for his sleep.
  • Keep It Comfortable. A comfortable mattress, bedding and pillows can make ALL the difference in the world when it comes to sleep. We most think about the mattress and pillows (and they truly do make a HUGE difference too), but even something as simple as a change of sheets can make a huge difference in our comfort and therefor sleep too.
Let's talk sheets, shall me? To be honest, I'm a cheapskate. Seriously. I tend to avoid spending money whenever possible. So when it came to buying sheets? Well, I'd grab whatever was the cheapest. They all did the same job, right? What difference did it really make then? Then I actually tried some better quality sheets and I realized just how wrong I had been. It wasn't a matter of price and I couldn't tell you the first thing about thread counts, etc... but the feeling of sleeping on quality sheets? I LOVED it!

Recently, I was given the chance to try out one such quality sheet set from California Design Den to share with all of you. First, let's take a look at the product specifics:

  • 100% Long Staple Cotton - Single Ply Yarns. Better quality than Egyptian cotton claimed by others.
  • Authentic 400 Threads Per Square Inch
  • Soft Sateen Weave
  • Fitted Bottom Sheets with Deep Pockets & Xtra Strong Elastic
  • Stylish Double Needle Band Pleat Hem
  • Smart Size and Side indicators for easy use

To some of you, the material and thread counts might mean something more. To me, again... it's not my area of expertise. Just by looking at the materials used and the thread count... I couldn't say anything about the comfort to expect. For me, I had to feel them for myself. The verdict? I loved them. They definitely feel like great quality, and are very soft and cozy to the touch. At the end of the day (literally) that truly is what matters most. Not only am I comfortable crawling into them at the end of the night... I've no doubts they will last too.

Beyond the comfort though, I love the other features that they include. Putting on a fitted sheet is not my favorite job to be honest. I feel like I'm starting and stopping constantly trying to make sure that I've got it turned the right direction. Then, it can be a battle to squeeze it over our mattress and topper. Annoying, am I right? These sheets take the guesswork out with convenient labels that let us know which side is which. It's such a simple idea, but what a difference it makes! Saves time, energy and sanity too. They're also easy to find in the linen closet with other sheets thanks to the size labels too. The deep pockets also go easily over our mattress topper without any trouble as well, making it a great option for anyone with a thicker than average mattress!

Personally, I decided to go with a very classic solid color that will match absolutely anything. This is however just one of many of the great options available- to include both colors and a variety of prints as well. There is sure to be one to match whatever your decor may be.

  16. These sheets are beautiful. I love they have deep pockets, we love that in our sheets. I agree with you on getting relaxed before bed. We meditate before bed and leave the music on after we are in the bed. Its peaceful and really helps us get the rest we need. All we need now is a new mattress.
