Tips for Finding the Perfect Bridesmaid Dress

With the arrival of spring and summer comes the season for weddings!

Are you planning a wedding? After your own dress (of course), perhaps one of the most important decisions that you can make for your wedding is the wardrobe for the rest of the wedding party--- your bridesmaids, flower girls, even mother of the bride! The dresses chosen for these important ladies in your life can set the look and scene for your entire wedding, so you want to make those decisions wisely.

Where do you start? Today, I'm sharing a few simple tips:

Think About Colors. Of course, you want to choose a color you love for your wedding colors, but keep in mind skin tones when choosing your scheme. You may love a bright orange, but let's be honest--- it can be a hard color to pull off for many skin tones! Find a color that will look great on all of your chosen party... and remember if you still love a shade that might not work for everyone, you can bring it in elsewhere--- accessories, ties for the men, etc.

Consider Body Types. No two bodies are made the same, and likewise even two women who may wear the same dress size may look completely different in it. You want your bridesmaids to look great and feel great so look for styles that will flatter all. Many brides have decided to skip the uniform look and instead allowed bridesmaids to choose from a selection of dresses in the same color. This allows them to find a dress that flatters but still has a great put together look. Also consider comfort levels--- while you may be fine with a strapless dress or a little cleavage, others may not- be it due to comfort level or religious guidelines, so consider your bridesmaids comfort level as well. (Bonus tip: Have more mature bridesmaids, or those who prefer to dress more modestly? Check out long mother of the bride dresses for even more options!)

Stick to a Budget. Remember, not everyone can spend hundreds of dollars on a dress to be worn just once, so it is very important to know and respect your friends' budgets.

Shop Around. Chances are you are not going to find the perfect dress on the first try so shop around several different stores before making a choice. Look at different styles and fits, try on, know what works, etc. Often, you can find dresses for cheaper online, but first shopping around can help you better know what to purchase there when you can't try on!

Plan Ahead. It goes without saying that planning ahead for your wedding is important when possible. This will allow you more time to shop around, try on many different styles and find the right dresses for your wedding. This will also give your bridesmaids more time to plan on purchasing and having the money set aside as well.

Know Your Wedding Style. If you're having a super modern, classic wedding style, chances are faddish bridesmaids dresses aren't really going to work. So, know the look you are going for before you start shopping so that everything falls into place beautifully.

Weather Matters. We might not be able to predict the exact weather when we schedule our weddings, but keep the seasons in mind at least--- short summer dresses may look great, but if it's negative five degrees out--- well, your bridesmaids will be feeling the chill!
Be Open to Suggestions. If you want your bridesmaids to be happy with your choice in dresses, ask for their input. They can tell you what styles they like, dislike, feel uncomfortable in, can afford, etc. At the end of the day, it's your wedding and your choice, but by getting their input you can better choose a dress they will love! Who wouldn't want that?

Don't Forget the Littles. It may be the bride's day... but who doesn't love seeing the kids in the wedding, right? Don't forget to check out the popular flower girl dresses to finish off the wedding party look!
