This Is LOVE: A Look Inside February's Illustrated Faith Devotional Kit #IF_ThisIsLove

"For God so love the world that he gave his one and only son, that whomever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

We all know these words, don't we? John 3:16 is the most well known verse in the Bible, and probably among the first that most of us memorized as children. In one simple line, it so perfectly sums up God's love. Oh, what a love that is.

But let's be honest... do you ever feel that maybe you're not quite worthy of that love? That you need to be BETTER to truly deserve it?

We live in a flawed world and for so many of us, it can be really hard to accept that God truly does love us unconditionally, just as we are, no strings attached. And there are many reasons that we might feel that way:

  • We make mistakes, constantly. We are not the 'perfect' Christians that we feel that God wants us to be to be deserving of His grace.
  • We don't have strong relationships with our own parents. It's harder to understand the love of a heavenly father when we do not know the love of an earthly one.
  • We have been told we are unworthy by the world. How are we to feel worthy of GOD when we feel so inadequate even to man?
  • We don't love ourselves. We see only the worst, and wonder how anyone, God included can love us, if we don't even like ourselves.

Whatever the reasons may be, God's love can be a really difficult concept to grasp. I must admit, though I know the verses, and I know God's love in my heart, I still find myself on those worst days dealing with mental and physical health wondering how *I* in the midst of all my imperfections and insecurities could truly ever be worthy of such a sacrifice. The world has this way of convincing us that we truly are not good enough.

But here's the true reality.

We are just as God made us to be--- beautifully and wonderfully made. Yes, even those flaws that we see in ourselves and wish to do away with were part of God's design just for us. We were created in His image. He knows every hair on our head.

Wow. Let's just stop to think about that for a moment!

He made us down to the very last detail.

He could have made each of us look like a perfect 10. He could have made us with out flaws. He could have created each and every one of us as a carbon copy of the next. But He didn't.

Instead He created us each to be 100% unique. In His image.
We may be flawed, but He loved us just the same and sent His son to show just how great that love truly was. Amazing.

And so the next time you start feeling unworthy of love, as they you are undeserving and not quite good enough. Let's remember these words:

You are created by God.
You are in His image.
You are a part of His plans.
You are LOVED.

With Valentine's Day just weeks away, this is truly the perfect time to celebrate the most wonderful love this world has ever known. It's not Romeo and Juliet. It's not Cory and Topanga. It's not Ross and Rachel. No, it's God's love for this world and for each and every one of us.

THIS IS LOVE.
