We all have those products we HAVE to have, right? Maybe it's a beauty brand or a cleaning products... but there is always that ONE thing we have to have on hand at all times. For me, it's nothing fancy. It's nothing expensive. It's good for beauty, first aid and cleaning.

It's BAKING SODA!

Most of us probably have this staple in our pantry, am I right?

But did you know just how many uses there are for baking soda? Today, I'm sharing some I've tried:

  • Stubborn Dishes. Baked on food that won't come off? Sprinkle in some baking soda and add hot water. Let it soak. It will wash right out!
  • Stings and Boo Boos. I remember at my family reunions, there was always baking soda on hand. Why? If someone got stung, you just make a paste with baking soda and water and apply!
  • DIY Air Freshener. A simple container of plain baking soda will do the job of removing odors, but you can also mix in some of your favorite essential oils for an extra boost of scent naturally.
  • Goodbye Magic Erasers. My daughter just entered that 'draw on the walls' phase...you mamas know the one I mean! This trick will save your sanity! Get a damp rag, sprinkle on some baking soda, rub to dampen the baking soda. Scrub with this mixture... it works just like a magic eraser but at half the cost.
  • Carpet Deodorizer. Between kids and pets, carpets can get...blech! Sprinkle on some plain baking soda, OR mix again with your favorite oils. Allow to sit overnight or at least a few hours and vacuum up. (Flea troubles? Try using some oils that are known to repel these pesky creatures- citronella, peppermint and lavender for example.)
  • Science. For my kids, nothing beats a good ol' baking soda and vinegar volcano!
  • Teeth Whitening. Make a simple paste with water and baking soda and use every few days (not as a replacement to your current toothpaste) for an extra whitening boost. You can also sprinkle onto your everyday toothpaste to skip that extra step!
  • Clean Toilets. Pour some right into the bowl, let sit and scrub... not only does it clean beautifully, it deodorizes too!
These are just a few of the MANY ways that I personally love to use baking soda around the home! From cleaning to beauty to first aid... who could have imagined this ONE inexpensive product can pack such a punch.

  3. Absolutely, I use baking soda for cleaning my kitchen sink and oven, as a carpet deodorizer before vacuuming.

Apart from cleaning uses, baking soda can be used to fix things as well. Mix super glue and baking soda, the mixture forms a solid adhesive which can be shaped as per our needs.

Thank you for the hacks :-)
