Where Jesus Slept {A Kids Book Giveaway and Christmas Craft} #WhereJesusSlept #FlyBy

When I was a child, my mom always kept a collection of Christmas books that I would read each year over and over again. Some of these were classics like 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' or 'The Christmas Carol', and others were just fun stories that were collected throughout the year. Even though I'd read them over and over to the point of memorization, I so loved reading these familiar stories each and every year.

As a mom, I knew this was a tradition that I wanted to carry on with my children. And so, each year we add more wonderful books to our collection. We have some stories that talk about the magic of Christmas and Santa Claus of course, but perhaps my favorites are those that tell the story of Christ's birth- the true spirit of the season- in a fun and unique way.

This year, I was excited to add one more such book to our collection, Where Jesus Slept-

About the book:

“This is the bed where Jesus slept. This is the straw that lined the bed where Jesus slept.” From here, the story builds with each spread, adding a new element and explaining the relationships among the participants and witnesses to the first Christmas. From Jesus sleeping sweetly to the wise men bringing gifts, this charming book reminds readers young and not-so-young of the joyous event we celebrate at Christmastime. Children will love the delightful illustrations and the engaging repetition in this cumulative tale.

About the author:

Norma Lewis is the author of ten books. She lives in Grand Haven, MI, with a marmalade cat named Scalawag. They both love spending time with her six grandchildren, ranging in age from three to twenty.

Illustrated by Katy Hudson.

We all know that kids learn best through repetition, and what more important story is there to help little ones remember than the story of Christ's birth? With each turn of the page, a new element of the story is added until we see the whole picture of the baby born that night in the manger. The story flows beautifully, making it both easy and fun to read. Even the earliest readers will be able to pick up the story as you go, and that they will want to hear over and over again.

We have several books in our collection sharing the story of Jesus' birth, but I honestly believe this may be my favorite one yet. It's such a simple story, but one of beauty and importance.

As much as we love reading Christmas stories in my house, we also love bringing them to life with fun kids crafts!

Popsicle Stick Manger Kids Craft

  • 2 Popsicle Sticks
  • Construction Paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Straw (optional)
  1. Assemble your manger. Take the two Popsicle sticks and create a 'V', with the bottoms overlapping. Allow to dry. (You can use hot glue to speed up the process.)
  2. Now, cut a small triangle to the size of your manger. Glue to the back of the manger.
  3. If you want to keep it basic, you're finished. But if you have a few little pieces of straw , glue those to the back to they peek out the top to take it to the next level. You can even add your own baby Jesus to really complete the look.
  4. Add string for hanging, if desired.
I love how this simple craft helps to give kids a visual example of 'Where Jesus Slept'. From home to Sunday School, this craft and book are the perfect addition to any Christmas celebration.

And how's this for a celebration- one very lucky reader is going to win a copy of the book for themselves! Enter using the Rafflecopter form below:
