Dig Deeper into War Room with Books for the Family! (A Giveaway)

Have you seen War Room yet?

This movie, currently in theaters, is all about the power of prayer:

With great jobs, a beautiful daughter (Alena Pitts) and a dream house, the Jordans seem to have it all. Appearances can be deceiving, however, as husband Tony (T.C. Stallings) flirts with temptation and wife Elizabeth (Priscilla Shirer) becomes increasingly bitter, crumbling under the strain of a failing marriage. Their lives take an unexpected turn for the better when Elizabeth meets her newest client, Miss Clara (Karen Abercrombie), who encourages the couple to find happiness through prayer.

Now, I have not yet had the chance to see the movie myself, but have heard only great things. I have heard that this is a powerful movie that will make us all take a look at the power of how we pray. Prayer is such a crucial part of our relationships with Christ- after all, what is any relationship without communication. I am excited to see this film myself and to see how it will change the prayer lives of those who watch. And to help, there are several companion books to the movie for each and every member of the family:

The Battle Plan for Prayer

Inspired by the Kendrick Brothers’ new movie, War Room, this exciting new resource from the #1 best-selling author team behind The Love Dare and The Resolution for Men is designed to help anyone learn how to become a powerful person of prayer. The Battle Plan for Prayer begins with prayer’s core purpose, its biblical design, and its impact throughout history. Readers will be guided scripturally through the fundamentals of how effective prayer works, inspired towards a closer, more intimate relationship with God, and shown how to develop specific prayer strategies for each area of life. Prayer can accomplish what a willing God can accomplish. It should be your first plan of attack in all of life’s battles, not your last resort. If you want to experience the joy of mightily answered prayer, then it’s time to engage with God at another level.
This great book is perfect for everyone...man or woman! I've read many books on prayer throughout the year, but I must say that this one is certainly the most in depth. It takes us through everything you need to know about prayer! It encourages us to set aside a specific time to pray each and every day- making prayer a priority in your day- not just something you do when you are stressed or have a spare moment. It encourages us to set goals in prayer and really pray with a purpose. It tells us about the power of prayer, the types of prayers, how God answers prayers. It takes an in depth look at different ways we pray...the why, the how and the what! If you're looking to transform your prayer life, this book will be life changing!

Fervent

New York Times bestselling author Priscilla Shirer, widely known for her international speaking, teaching, and writing ministries, brings her new role from the 2015 film War Room into the real lives of today’s women, addressing the topics that affect them most: renewing their passion, refocusing their identity, negotiating family strife, dealing with relentless regrets, navigating impossible schedules, succeeding against temptation weathering their worst fears, uprooting bitterness, and more. Each chapter exposes the enemy’s cruel, crafty intentions in all kinds of these areas, then equips and encourages you to write out your own personalized prayer strategies on tear-out sheets you can post and pray over yourself and your loved ones on a regular basis. Fervent is a hands-on, knees-down, don’t-give-up action guide to practical, purposeful praying.

Like The Battle Plan for Prayer, Fervent truly is a battle plan too...but this one is JUST for women, and goes more into topics that are important to us as women. It looks at topics like family, fears, purity and pressure and offers Bible passages to help us pray through them. It also features space to take notes and the tear out cards to write our prayers are a fantastic addition as well. While the first book is certainly acceptable for women as well, I must say I certainly preferred this one for myself at least!

This Means War

The teen years can be tough; don't try to make it through without one of your most powerful weapons—prayer. A companion book to the movie War Room, this new kind of journal will get you ready for a new kind of prayer life, one that's strong, growing, and reflects just how powerful prayer is. Each short chapter tackles one of the biggest questions teens have about prayer. Just-right journaling prompts will then get you thinking—and praying—and reinforce the real power of fighting battles on your knees.

Now, onto the teens! To be honest, as far as being a Christian in today's world goes, I think the teens have it the toughest. It's not cool to be a Christian, and teens can be cruel. When all you want to do is fit in, it's hard to stand out. But it's also extremely important. I loved that unlike the adult companion books, This Means War does not just tell us how to pray and why to pray, but as a prayer journal is much more interactive. It doesn't just say 'do this!', but gives space and questions to share their own thoughts on the topic. My son isn't old enough for this one yet, so I cannot get his opinion on it...but I can say I would have certainly appreciated a book like this in my high school days!

PrayerWorks

As kids grow, their prayer lives need to grow too—but how? Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick offer a strategy that kids can use to figure out how prayer works and just how powerful it is. Lots of great explanation is combined with fun activities, illustrations, and journaling prompts to get kids thinking and praying.

This companion book to the movie War Room contains 32 perforated journal pages kids can use to write specific prayers and then post them on the walls in their prayer room—just like the characters in the movie.
Finally, it's the kids turn! Though all of these books are fantastic, I must admit I love the kids' books best! And Prayer Works is probably my favorite of the two. In many ways, this is very much the kid version of The Battle Plan for Prayer. It too gives us the what, the how and the whys of prayer, but in a much shorter, much more kid friendly package. It teaches kids why they should pray, what they should pray for, how they should pray...and bible references to back it all up! This is not the book for younger kids- probably best for ages 8-12, give or take depending on your child, and truly helps them to get a better understanding of all things prayer. And to put it into practice offers a convenient prayer journal so that they can write out their prayer requests and even track how God has answered. This is truly a great resource for Christian Kids!

Peter's Perfect Prayer Place

Peter is used to seeing his mom pray in her special prayer room, and now you can help him search for his own place to pray—Peter's perfect prayer place. Is it under his bed? Up in his treehouse? Where can God hear him best? There's lots of fun as Peter looks and looks, but in the end, he learns that although it's great to have a special place to be alone with God and pray, God hears you no matter where you are—under, up, or in between!
This companion book to the movie War Room will teach young readers an important lesson about talking to God. And the fold-out prayer chart and stickers in the back of the book will let them track their prayers as well as God's answers!

And finally, this one is for the younger kids (though my 8-year-old enjoys both kid books!). While every other companion book has been more of a guide- a how to pray- this one is simply a story! And it's a very cute story! Throughout the book, we follow Peter as he tries to find the ideal spot to pray, where God can hear him best. I love that it acknowledges that it is nice to find that quiet spot and make time just for prayer- even for kids- but still reminds them that in the end, God will hear them wherever they may be. It is beautifully written and beautifully illustrated, and even includes a fun poster for your little one to track their prayers! This is truly a must add to your child's book collection.

No matter who we are- young or old, man or woman- prayer is important. These books have a little something for each and every one of us. And while they may be companion books to War Room (and I certainly encourage everyone to check it out), you don't have to watch the movie to appreciate the books!
