Bonding With Your Child Through Boundaries: A Book Review & Giveaway #FCBlogger

Are there ever days you feel like you are in a constant battle with your child?

If I were to be 100% honest, I feel like those days are happening quite often around here with my oldest son. You see, he has entered that stage where he craves his independence. He has turned 8-years-old and thinks he is a big kid and can make his own decisions. Most importantly, he wants to test his boundaries and see just how far he can push them.

Let me tell you, this is NOT a fun stage!

I love my son with everything in me, and want him to be happy... but while it would be much easier to give in to him, I know that if I want to raise a responsible, respectful child I have to stick to the boundaries. But just how do I do that? It's easy enough to say how important it is to stick to boundaries, but harder to put into practice in the moment! How do I know what sticking to the boundaries actually looks like in various situations? And how do I actually go about it? Needless to say, Bonding with Your Child through Boundaries could not have come at a better time.

In
Bonding with Your Child through Boundaries, biblical counselor June Hunt, along with PeggySue Wells, combine biblical hope and practical help to motivate parents to understand and practice appropriate boundaries with their children. You'll discover the essential role of boundaries, how they contribute to the development of a child's character, and how they equip kids for a lifetime of learning. Practical "how-to" chapters inside illustrate how you can make boundaries work--guiding you as you cultivate happy homes and build healthy relationships with your children.

In Bonding with Your Child through Boundaries, June and PeggySue share real life tips and strategies for facing issues that are all too common among parents today- topics like bullying, media, money, homework, chores, dis-respectfulness and many more. Each topic is given its own chapter making it super easy to find just what you're looking for in the challenges you're facing now. They offer a variety of tips and ideas on what to say and what to do in those situations, but most importantly close each section with a bit of biblical wisdom- so very important when trying to raise Godly children.

Still, parenting is not always a one size fits all so while much of the advice in book is really useful... you might find they you don't agree with absolutely everything... and that's okay! I like to look at parenting books such as this one not as a how to rule book, but more of a learning tool. I do not have to agree with or take every piece of advice given, but rather can determine which tips would work well for myself and my family and not worry too much about those that won't. So, while I may not agree with every single piece of advice given in this book, I still found it to be a very valuable resource and one that I am very thankful to have during this boundary pushing stage of motherhood!
