For many parents across the US, winter break has arrived...or will be soon!

As much as we love having more time with the kiddos during this season, we also know that by the end, boredom is SURE to sink in! And that? Well, that is something we can all do without. So, new books to pass the time are an absolute MUST.

Today, I'm excited to introduce you to two fantastic new books that might just help.

Bucketloads of Friends: Lucas is looking everywhere for a best friend: the park, the circus, by the lake, and at school. He meets a lot of people along the way. But what about a best friend? This entertaining and colorful book is full of details for kids to search and find. Every spread features line drawings that are humming with activity. From an animal hospital populated with every kind of pet to an office filled with workers too busy working to give Lucas the time of day; from a restaurant that appears to serve only sandwiches and salad to a botanic garden where the visitors are just as strange as the plants. As Lucas travels around the city, he meets a lot of people, but will he find a best friend? Young readers will turn again and again to these drawings, discovering new details each time, and sparking their own ideas about how people interact in everyday situations. Many look and find questions will increase the fun and help to spot even more details.

Do you have a child who loves 'Where's Waldo?' or 'I Spy' books? If so, this will be right up there alley! Each page is filled with fun items for them to search for. Unlike those other search and find books though, there really is a story to tell too. We follow around Lucas as he searches for friends...something I think many kids can relate to! Along the way we see many interesting people, and are challenged within the story to find many interesting objects. While my children are not in that stage, I couldn't help but think this could be a book that would offer great encouragement to children starting to read more independently as they have to read the story to know what they are looking for.

The images inside are simple, but beautifully drawn... lots to look at and capture their little eyes. In fact, once they've read through once they can even challenge themselves to find other fun and random objects throughout the pages. It truly is the perfect way to beat that winter boredom, and one that my kids certainly are loving!

Hello Lilac, Good Morning Yellow: Introducing children to colors and in the process expanding their vocabulary, this book will delight young readers, who will recognize the myriad of things that make their world colorful. A sunny morning introduces the color yellow and leads young readers to a light bulb, a fuzzy baby chick, a lemon, and a friendly lion. A snowman, a sheep, an egg, and a soccer ball reveal that white has endless variations. Green takes readers outside to look at a leaf, a frog, and a caterpillar while a brown bear is surrounded by a wooden spoon, a basket, a girl’s braid, and a broom. Gorgeously illustrated, this engaging book is sure to capture a child’s imagination and is perfect for young ones to read with their parents.
It's a colorful world we live in, and this book celebrates that beautifully. Each page introduces a new color with beautiful depictions of items in that color, with their names written beside them. Now, let's be honest... there are a LOT of books that do something similar--- colors with objects in that color. Off the top of my head, my daughter probably has at least three! What makes this one unique are the beautiful illustrations throughout. It truly is like a work of art that even as an adult enjoyed browsing through. Beyond that, they items chosen are a great mix of both the usual objects we'd likely associate with that color and some that we might never have thought of too, making it a great way to grow children's vocabulary.

My daughter is honestly probably a little older than the target age group--- she already knows her colors very well at 5 years old, but we still loved it. She is almost to the point where she'll be learning to read words, so I cannot help but think those solo words will be a GREAT way to practice that for her. But at the very least, it's a beautiful book to browse through anyway!

Both of these books truly are beautiful and set themselves apart from other books in similar styles, and are the perfect solution to staying entertained during these cold winter days inside. My family loves them, and I'm sure yours will too.
