They cool you down fast, they're delicious and most important, they're extremely budget friendly--- a huge pack can cost just a few dollars! Being the bargain shopper that I am, I love that!
But of course the biggest complaint my kids always have about these favorite popsicle treats are 'My hands are too cold!' Can you relate? Last summer, my sister bought each of my kids their very own Popsicle koozie with their names. Whoever thought of this...well, a complete and total genius. Maybe even a hero. Unfortunately, in my house... they got lost! Oops! So I set out to make some myself, using one of their favorite movies, Star Wars:
DIY Lightsaber Popsicle Koozies
- Grey Felt
- Black Felt
- Red/Blue Felt
- Scissors
- Needle
- Embroidery Thread
- Hot Glue
- Fold your grey felt in half, and cut into strips. The size will be dependent on the popsicles you usually purchase, as some are a little bit thicker than others. To make it easy, you can put one on top and make it a little wider. (Remember the sewing will make you lose room too!)
- Start at one side of the top and use a whip stitch to sew around the edges. This is a very simple stitch and perfect for beginning sewers too! (Alternately though you *could* just use hot glue.) If you want more of a seamless look, try to find a grey to match your felt. My store was out so I used the black I already had. You could also use a red or blue to match your buttons too! Sew all around the three sides, leaving the top open.
- Now it's time to cut the embellishments. Use black to cut the lines and one button and blue or red for the other. They don't have to be perfect, just have fun with it.
- Glue these onto your koozie with hot glue to create fun lightsaber designs. (You could also sew these on, if preferred, but you would want to do this BEFORE sewing the edges. Personally, I decided to make it easier and use the glue!)
- Once glue is dry, pop in your popsicle and enjoy!
Super fun, right? And super budget friendly too--- it cost about 70 cents for for the felt--- which was enough to make 4-5 koozies. I personally already had the thread and hot glue in my craft stash, but these are also very inexpensive as well too! More importantly, my kids loved them!
