Growing up is tough.

When we're kids everything is taken care of for of us. We have parents who take care of our needs and see that they are all provided for. Our problems are that we don't like what we're having for lunch that day. But as we approach those preteen and teen years, it gets a little more confusing. We have so many questions and our confidence can falter.

As the parents, we try but there are those questions we might not know the answer to, or perhaps relationships are strained as they can tend to be at that age. Don't you wish there was just some sort of guidebook for life?

Now, there is... sort of! A book packed full of skills and tips to taking on this life and growing up with confidence and grace, 'The Girls Guide to Conquering Life':

Everything you need to know to be prepared, confident, and successful

As you grow up and make your mark on the world, you're going to run into plenty of situations that require you to be confident and capable. But it's hard to be either when you don't know what you're doing! If you want to have it all together, The Girls' Guide to Conquering Life is your go-to resource. With great illustrations and step-by-step instructions for almost everything a young woman needs to know, this book shows you how to

The world needs women of character who don't wait for others to do what needs to be done. With The Girls' Guide to Conquering Life, you'll be well on your way to impressing everyone around you with your skill, confidence, and grace under pressure.

Recently I'd read somewhere that more and more teenagers and young adults were going out into the world with a lack of basic skills--- from boiling water to writing a check. Important skills that every person should know, right? Let's not even talk about even more important skills like saving money or managing a credit card. This book helps to teach some of these skills that our girls may be missing.

I remember reading guidebooks as a kid that seemed to focus more on taking care of our looks or dating. These are great skills to have of course, but not the only skills we women need. I love that this book carries a wide variety of different skills in a variety of subjects such as guys & dating, social skills & manners, work & ethics, wealth & money management, health & beauty, clothes & fashion, sports & recreation, cars & driving, food & cooking and tools & fix it. As you can see it does feature some of those typical girl subjects, but goes way beyond that covering topics that many might think aren't 'girl skills'. But these are skills that are universally useful. Being married to a military man, there are many times when my husband was not around and things needed to be done... using a drill, a hammer, putting together furniture, small repairs... these are things I've learned to do and actually find I enjoy doing.
Now, my daughter is a little young to read this book on her own now, but as a parent this is a great tool to remind ME what I should be teaching her (and her brother too!). Let's take the section on leaving a tip for instance. We all know to do this, and most of us probably do... but do we think to talk to our older children about it or do we just assume they're figuring it out by watching?

If you have a tween daughter, this book is a must! Rather you give it to her to read on her own or you read it together, it will truly help her to be more confident and responsible! It will help her face all life's challenges big and small head on rather than with uncertainty ad confusion. And hey, we as women might even be reminded of a few skills we've forgotten- or never learned- ourselves.
