How do you talk to others about Jesus?

That can be a bit of a tough one, can't it? Maybe we feel like we just aren't as well versed in Bible history as we should be, maybe we aren't sure how to approach the subject and how people are going to react to it, or maybe we just struggle with conversations in general. Whatever the reason, many of us can honestly feel like we are just not equipped for the job.

Sometimes, we DO try and we feel like we stumble over our words, saying all the wrong things... offending and turning others off because we just miss the mark in our approach. I remember this happening to me as a teen... sharing my belief in God and baptism and finding that my audience just wasn't quite understanding the message that I was trying to share.

Still, the bible tells us, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". But, how do we do that? How can we overcome our fear of spreading the good news, or our inability to say the right words to reach people? Today, I'm excited to share a great new book that can help with that, 'Good News For a Change':

Imagine an atheist sending you regular prayer requests. Or your coworker grabbing you by the arm and asking you to stay late at work to talk about God just a bit longer. When Jesus talked about the Good News, people ran to him.

We should expect the same response. Good News for a Change is about working together with Jesus to share the gospel in ways unique to each person’s situation.

You will enjoy evangelism because it is a fun, deeply personal, community and person-oriented way to connect with people. You’ll be energized and focused on helping people discover why Jesus is good news for them.

This is a fantastic read! Again, if we read the Bible we know that we're supposed to talk to people about Jesus... but we're not often told exactly how we do that. If we start spouting off about how everyone is sinning and they need to stop immediately... well, that's not generally going to get people to want to listen, is it? If we come at them from somewhere that makes no sense to them, the message just doesn't sink in. This book shows us through real life examples how to talk to people in a way that works! Maybe it won't mean that every person we talk to will be saved right then and there, but it can at least help give us the confidence to start the conversation, to plant that seed.

If you need a little help in that area, this book is definitely a must read. It is available to purchase now at your favorite Christian book retailers.

  1. This is the kind of book I need to read. I'm a devout Christian but sometimes have a hard time with the words to say in evangelism.
