NIV The Woman's Study Bible: A Review

**Bible received for review. Post contains affiliate links. All thoughts are 100% my own.
Nearly a year, I was given the chance to review the NKJV The Woman's Study Bible. This was a gorgeous Bible that instantly caught my eye with it's gorgeous design. In fact, at the time, I might have called it the prettiest Bible in my personal collection. I fell in love with not only the design, but the many great features inside. I truly loved everything about this Bible except one thing...

The translation.

Now don't get me wrong, there is certainly nothing wrong with NKJV. There certainly is something beautiful and poetic about the language used in this translation. Still, for me personally, it's not one that I understand as well as I would like. It's old-fashioned and not something that I can as easily read and pick up on the meanings of what it is I am reading. And for a study bible, that's a very important thing. So, as much as I did love that Bible, I found I was reaching for others instead.

Needless to say when I learned The Woman's Study Bible was BACK with an NIV translation, I knew that I had to check it out:

The Woman’s Study Bible poignantly reveals the Word of God to women, inviting them to receive God’s truth for balance, hope, and transformation. Special features designed to speak to a woman’s heart appear throughout the Bible text, revealing Scripture-based insights about how godly womanhood grows from a woman’s identity as a Christ-follower and a child of the Kingdom. Now with a beautiful full-color redesign, The Woman’s Study Bible reflects the contributions of over 80 women from a wide variety of ethnic, denominational, educational, and occupational backgrounds. Since the publication of the first edition of The Woman’s Study Bible under the editorial guidance of Dorothy Kelley Patterson and Rhonda Harrington Kelley, this landmark study Bible has sold over 1.5 million copies.

Features Include:

  • Beautiful full-color design throughout
  • Detailed biographical portraits of over 100 biblical women
  • Thousands of extensive verse-by-verse study notes
  • Over 300 in-text topical articles on relevant issues
  • Insightful essays by women who are recognized experts in the fields of theology, biblical studies, archaeology, and philosophy
  • Book introductions and outlines
  • Hundreds of full-color in-text maps, charts, timelines, and family trees
  • Quotes from godly women throughout history
  • Set of full-page maps of the biblical world
  • Topical index
  • Concordance
  • 10.5-point print size
First and foremost, much like the NKJV of this Bible, this is a stunning Bible. It features a beautiful floral design that I for one cannot help but fall in love with. Still, it's what inside that truly makes this a great Bible. It has absolutely everything you need to dig deeper into the word and truly get a greater understanding of what you're reading.

Each book starts with some great background information--- where did the title come from? who wrote this? when was it written? what was the setting? the purpose? who was it written for? All of these and more are answered. It even offers an outline so you know just what it is you'll be reading before you even start.

As you read you will find notations at the bottom that allows you to gain a better understanding of the context in which these verses were written. It offers some historical insight and better explanation of what these phrases and actions meant to that intended audience. In addition it also features some more in depth look at various characters throughout and thoughts on various topics that are relevant to women with scriptural references to read through. There are charts, timelines, family trees, and maps all throughout. All of these great features throughout truly make this a fantastic study bible that I for one am very excited about.

If you've been on the search for the perfect study Bible, The Woman's Study Bible in NIV might be just what you are looking for! It is available to purchase now at your favorite Christian book retailers.

Shopping on a Budget: What To Buy at Dollar Tree

Successful business man with piggy bank holding thumbs up in office Free Photo

"We can get that at Dollar Tree!"

This is a phrase that my children and my husband hear from me ALL the time. Probably to an annoying level if I were to be entirely honest. But seriously, I love me some Dollar Tree.. why spend more when I can buy things for JUST $1, right? I only wish I could buy EVERYTHING at the Dollar Tree... but here are a few things that I do, and would highly recommend:

  • Organization Items. Dollar Tree has a great selection of storage items that are GREAT for keeping you organized--- little bins to be used for small toys or under the sink storage, etc. These can add up other places, so I love grabbing them here.
  • Spices & Other Grocery Items. Did you know that Dollar Tree has limited groceries? Now, to be honest, I have found *some* of their grocery items to be hit and miss quality wise (hint: their 'cheese'... not recommended), and some items I can usually find cheaper on sale at my local grocery story (bread, eggs, etc...), but I love getting what I can there. Spices is one that I've found is always cheaper AND the quality seems just the same as we'd find for $2-3 more! I've also purchased flour and sugar... the staples with good luck, although you do sometimes have to check sizes to make sure you ARE in fact getting a better deal. Check your local store to see what kind of selection they carry!
  • Make-Up/Nail Polishes. Now again, depending on your skin especially, this can be hit or miss on if the items they carry work well for you, but you CAN find a pretty decent selection of make-up available at Dollar Tree and even name brands at time too. My favorite beauty item to pick up at Dollar Tree is nail polish. They often have two packs which means each color is just 50 cents each. (Hint: Dollar Tree DOES accept manufacturer coupons, so watch out for those!)
  • Dishes. Dishes at Dollar Tree? Who would have thought!? But seriously, they have some cute dish options available that are actually nice quality too! Now, you might not have quite the variety as you'd find elsewhere, but if you're on a budget, they'll be perfect!
  • Wrapping Paper and Party Supplies. If I'm not able to stock up during after holiday clearances, Dollar Tree is my go to for wrapping paper. They have a wide variety of cute prints, including some favorite kids characters. Why pay more for something that's just getting tossed out anyway. Same goes for gift bags. You can even find party supplies too, which can be a huge savings. I usually buy what I can at Dollar Tree and head to a party store to get a small selection of character pieces to go with our theme!
  • Shipping Materials. Now, if you ship a lot of packages, I would actually advise against Dollar Tree and suggest buying in bulk (ebay or Amazon) for lower costs, but if you're just the casual shipper, you can get everything you need here--- bubble mailers, envelopes, tape, even Sharpies brand permanent markers.
  • Decor. We've gotten a lot of great holiday decor items from Dollar Tree, but they also have some great every day decor items too. Vases, picture frames, candles... this can be a great place to save a little bit of money. You can even take these basics they offer and make them more your own with a little spray paint and DIY know-how.
  • Health/Beauty Items. Cotton Swabs, Band Aids, pregnancy tests, baby wipes, even medications... all of these can be found at Dollar Tree. Some might have name brands in smaller amounts, others off brand, but if they do the job... why pay more? They do offer shampoos and body wash too, but personally I do not find the quality to be that great and prefer to spend more elsewhere.
  • Batteries... sometimes. If you're looking for batteries for something that drains quickly, you might have to bite the bullet and pay the higher prices elsewhere, but for things like remote controls and even some toys, we have found that Dollar Tree batteries work out just fine for us.
  • Paper products. I always seem to grab paper towels and kleenexes at each trip to the Dollar Tree. They often have name brand of both too. Sandwich bags, foil, etc are also good ones to pick up. Toilet paper can be a little iffy, but they do often carry four packs of Angel Soft which work well... and if you're on a tight budget... hey, even cheap TP is better than none, am I right? I've gotten trash bags in a pinch too, and while they would not be my preferred pick, again... in a pinch, they're $1!
  • SOME Basic Toys. Now honestly, when it comes to toys at the Dollar Tree, I've found more often than not, you get what you pay for. They often don't seem to last too long, unfortunately. (Our Dollar Tree hula hoop fell apart in just a day!) Still, for things like bubbles and sidewalk chalk... we've had very good luck. We also like to grab coloring books there too!
  • Cleaning Supplies. Dollar Tree usually has a pretty great selection of cleaning supplies. They probably have everything you would need in theory, but I cannot speak for how well many of them might work. But they have basic bleach, various spray cleaners, dish soap, etc. For me, they are my go to for brooms. Yes, a broom for just $1! They're certainly nothing fancy, but they sweep well so I cannot complain! They also carry 'magic erasers' that work just as well as the name brand (although I've found baking soda and water works for this too--- even cheaper).
As you can see, there really is a LOT that you can get at Dollar Tree to save you money. Is everything going to be as high a quality as you might find elsewhere? Maybe not, though much of it is still very good for the price! But when you're on a budget and need to cut some costs, it can be a great resource to check out!

Are you a Dollar Tree shopper? What are your 'must buys' and 'absolutely do not' buys?

Spurgeon Journal: A Review

**Book received for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Do you journal?

No, no...I'm not talking about Bible journaling today, but just plain ol' journaling.

When many of us think about journaling, we probably think of something that is more for teenagers. You know, those, 'Dear diary' moments. But journaling can actually be great for all of us-- no matter our ages.

  • It helps us organize our thoughts.
  • It allows us to decompress.
  • It allows us to look back and see how things have changed.
  • It gives us better clarity on our lives.
There are also many ways to journal. We can journal about our day to day events, we can journal our goals and our dreams, we can journal our prayers... journaling can be whatever we want it to be. But first, we need a great journal! Today, I'm sharing one with you: the Spurgeon Journal:

For almost 160 years, Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s earliest sermons were lost to history. Thanks to Christian George and Spurgeon’s College, these powerful words from one of the world’s most popular preachers are now widely accessible to be read, studied, and enjoyed in the twelve volumes of the Lost Sermons of C. H. Spurgeon series.

This journal contains Spurgeon’s own inspirational words culled from these early sermons. On the page directly following each quote, you’ll find the source—the name and number of one of Spurgeon’s early sermons—for easy reference. In addition, the customizable table of contents at the front of the journal and the date feature at the top of each page allow you to keep your thoughts organized.

Whether you use your journal for writing sermons, taking notes, or daily journaling, allow Spurgeon’s stirring words to speak to your life today.

This is a gorgeous journal. It has a leather look with a printed design on the side, that is perfect for anyone- male or female. Inside is plenty of space to write your thoughts, with quotes by Spurgeon along the bottom of some pages. In addition to the quotes, it tells you which sermon the quote was found so if one strikes you, you can actually look them up for some more reading. It certainly had me wanting to read more.

Whether it's for a prayer journal, your bible study, or just to record your daily thoughts, this is a great journal to do it in. It is available to purchase now at your favorite Christian book retailers.

Unique Valentine Gift Ideas for Her {+ A $500 My Gift Stop Giveaway} #mygiftstop #valentinegiftideas

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of My Gift Stop. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Love is in the air! That's right, Valentine's Day is right around the corner! This has many on the search to find just the right gift for the one they love. That had me curious, what are the most popular Valentine's gifts for her? Here's what my research seemed to conclude:

  • Chocolates
  • Flowers
  • A Night Out
  • Greeting Cards
Now, these are all great gifts, don't get me wrong, but I must admit, aside from a greeting card (I like sweet words), none of these would make my personal list. Here's the thing--- chocolates taste great for a moment, but then it's gone. Likewise, flowers may look great, but in a few weeks they've dried out and into the trash they go. Then what do you have left? A dinner out at least offers the great experience, but I must admit I'd be just as happy with a late night meal at home after the kids have gone to bed. All of these gifts tend to cost a pretty penny, with nothing to show for them in the end. Me? I prefer gifts that will last well beyond Valentine's Day! So, what are some more unique and long lasting gifts for her this Valentine's Day? I've put together a list to help get you started, with a little help from My Gift Stop:

A New Bag. I LOVE a good bag. I don't have a ton in my closet, but when I find one that I love I tend to use it for a long time, so this is a gift I would love to receive- a nice bag. It doesn't HAVE to be a designer bag, just one she'll love. If there happens to be one she's been eyeing and budget allows, Valentine's Day can be a great excuse to treat her to it!
Michael Kors 32F5SCPC5L-083 Top-Zip Dove Saffiano Leather Cindy Women's Mini Crossbody Shoulder Bag

Home Items. Now, this one can be a little tricky... so make sure you know your significant other well. Some might see items for the home like kitchen appliances, etc as an insult on Valentine's Day, but me personally? I'd love it! I love gifts that are useful, because it's something I don't have to buy for myself- something I truthfully don't like doing!
Wusthof WU4195 Gourmet 7" High Carbon Steel & Polyoxymethylene Handle Hollow Edge Nakiri Knife

A New Watch. Now, I must admit, I'm not usually a big fan of fancy or expensive jewelry, but a watch is a little bit different. They can last for years and years and even be passed down. From fancy do more down to earth, you can always find a great quality watch to match her style and lifestyle.
Anne Klein Women's Quartz Pink Leather Band Watch

Something for Her Hobbies. Does she love crafting? Grab her that tool she's been wanting! Love camping? Perhaps a new tent or sleeping bag, or new boots for hiking. While these gifts might not be your typical romantic Valentine's Day gifts, they will show that you are taking an interest in the things that matter to her, and will mean a lot more than an impersonal Valentine's classic.

Klymit 06S2GR02C Static V2 Green & Grey Inflatable Sleeping Pad

The moral of the story--- Valentine's Day can be a great day to spoil the woman you love, but you don't have to stick with the typical. Think about your loved one and the things they love or even need but won't buy for themselves. Use that to find the perfect, unique gift that is perfect just for them.

Need more gift inspiration? My Gift Stop has a great variety of online gifts for her no matter her style! Stick To Your Resolutions with a Deal from PlateJoy #ad

***This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of PlateJoy. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Let's talk meal planning!

Are you a 'plan out every meal for the week' kind of person? Or a 'I'll pick whatever I feel like on any given day' kind of person? Or perhaps even a little in between somewhere?

With the start of the new year, many have made the resolution that this year is the year they are going to be more diligent about meal planning. When you plan your meals ahead of time, you can shop accordingly and aren't tempted to just grab something through a drive thru or ordering takeout--- helping you in those other common goals of saving money and eating better too.

Still, sometimes it's a little easier said than done, isn't it? I'll share my own personal attempts at meal planning as an example. It goes a little something like this:

  • Make a plan to make a plan. I sit down ready to go--- shopping list and meal schedule in hand. Let's do this!
  • Head to Pinterest. Time to get ideas. What better place to go than Pinterest? Thousands of recipes to browse through and add to my list.
  • Get lost on Pinterest. So many recipes to browse through, I've suddenly found that hours have passed and I still haven't finished my list, nor do I have time to do my shopping now.
  • Order a pizza/Chinese food, go out to eat.... or whip up the same ol' usual meals I make time and time again.
Sigh. Does this happen to anyone else? Surely there must be a better way, right?

Enter PlateJoy- a personalized meal planning app that makes healthy eating easy! A personalized meal plan is created just for you based on a quiz discussing your family size, fitness goals, dietary restrictions--- even your schedule.

Here's just a little look at what makes PlateJoy such a fantastic way to stick to your healthy eating resolution this year:

  • Starting a new diet? Whether it's low carb, low sodium, keto, paleo, food allergies, vegetarian, weight loss, etc, PlateJoy has you covered with great meal plans a recipes to fit them all.
  • Adjust to your cooking style! Some people loving making in depth gourmet meals every night, but for others we need something that fits our lifestyles and cooking preferences a little better. From family friendly, batch cooking, slow cooker meals, budget friendly--- whatever the needs you have, PlateJoy takes care of them.
  • Adjust to your schedule. Let's be honest, not all meal plans are created equal, but can vary greatly based on our schedules. Some nights we aren't home for dinner due to work or extracurricular activities. Some eat at work during the days and don't need a full lunch planned out, etc. You choose how many meals you need, and your meal plan is adjusted accordingly.
  • Waste less. One of the issues I so often found when menu planning elsewhere was that I would find these great recipes, but when I would make my lists, it'd be a mile long... no common ingredients, and even some that would feature a spice or other ingredient that I would not know how to use the remainder. PlateJoy offers a digital pantry that keeps track of what you have on hand already, and pairs recipes together with less waste in mind.
  • Convenient Shopping. Once you've settled your menu plan for the week and established what you have, you will be given a shopping list that lets you know just what you need and how much you need. You can view your list on the app at the store OR schedule a delivery with a local grocery store, with all needed items added automatically to your list. No subscription fees required.
  • Get your recipes on your phone! No need to print or lug a laptop into the kitchen, all recipes are delivered right to your phone so you can take them with you easily.

I was given the chance to experience PlateJoy for myself and I must admit, I love it! There were some recipes that came up that I knew weren't for my family, but I could easily swap them out and find more that were a little better suited to our personal tastes. I've used other options that offered weekly meal plans, and switching out was not always an option--- so this was a huge plus. It was very easy to understand and use, even for the non-tech savvy, I think. And I loved that the recipes selected for my family weren't too complicated. With two kids, I just don't have time for that. These meals are healthy and delicious, BUT easy to understand, follow and duplicate.

Here's a look at my very first meal from our PlateJoy meal plan: Pork chops with green beans, basil butter and a roll.

Now, I must say that I DID substitute the chops for pork steak, as I already had them on hand, and we typically prepare pork steak in the same way as chops, but aside from that I followed the recipe exactly. It was incredibly simple--- using simple, FRESH ingredients for a healthy meal that my family went absolutely crazy for. There was not a bite left over.

Some other fun options from our menu? Pulled pork tacos with cabbage slaw. Tilapia with lime butter, rice and spinach. BBQ meatloaf with roasted potatoes and green beans. Yum! Each of these meals was equally as easy to follow, and the ones we've done so far? All a big hit in my house. I loved that each meal was truly a full meal. I often struggle coming up with pairing ideas so this was a huge benefit for me too. PlateJoy clearly thought of it all.

Do you need a little help sticking to your healthy eating goals in 2018? PlateJoy might be just what you need. AND right now, you can save $15 on any plan at PlateJoy. Use the code JOYTOTHEWORLD at checkout to apply your deal.

Disney Tee Prompts Parental Outrage Over Outdated, Sexist Message

The iconic t-shirt is a staple for most Americans, with 62% of us saying we have more than 10 in our wardrobes. But in the U.K., outraged parents won't be buying one tee produced by the purveyor of all things princess-y. Although Disney may do no wrong in the eyes of many families, the company has sparked outrage amongst many British families for a girls' garment parents say spreads an archaic and potentially harmful message.

The tee in question is Cinderella-inspired, decorated with a pump heel and the words, "Shoes speak louder than words." When London-based mom Emma Palmer spotted the t-shirt at her local Disney Store, she did what many angry parents do in this day and age: she took to Facebook.

Palmer posted a photo of the offending t-shirt and wrote, "This is just everything that is wrong with messaging to girls in a nutshell. t's 2018... Surely it is widely recognized that the content of your mind and words you speak are WAAAAAY more important than your [expletive] shoes!"

Other parents were quick to agree and the post quickly went viral. Since it was created, the post has been shared more than 17,000 times and has received over 44,000 reactions. While some feel Palmer and her peers are making mountains out of molehills, the mother of two hasn't backed down from her stance.

"The messages you give to a girl should be about what they're thinking, their intelligence, and what they have to say -- not what they look like," Palmer explained Buzzfeed. "I understand it is fun to dress up, to wear makeup, and to have nice things -- but the point is at no point do I chose that as a
substitute for a brain, or for what I have to say."

Interestingly, Disney carries several other tees that take a more modern approach. The company makes at least two Beauty and the Beast themed tops that highlight the "beauty within" and the importance of strength, courage, ideas, dreams, and creativity -- although the latter shirt also highlights shoes.

Business Insider reports that 40% of men between the ages of 18 and 34  would prefer to do all of their shopping online, and it's likely that at least as many women (if not more) feel the same way. As of early January, the Cinderella tee was still available for purchase on the Disney Store UK's website. Although Disney did not return media requests for comment  on this story, Palmer said the company had reached out to her on Facebook and reassured her they'd investigate the complaint.

Overall, Palmer wants both parents and brands to understand that femininity isn't the issue at hand here. Rather, it's being pigeonholed into restrictive gender roles  and the message that beauty and/or femininity is all that matters.
"You can be feminine and still a feminist," Palmer explained to Insider. "You can celebrate and love femininity and still want equal treatment and respect."

That's an issue that's impacted many brands, particularly on social media, in recent months. Clarks and the Gap are just two companies that have come under fire for marketing campaigns and products that have reinforced harmful gender stereotypes. Whether Disney, a corporation known best for its damsel-in-distress trope, will shift gears in 2018 remains to be seen.

Decorate YOUR Way with These Tips {+ A Deal From Fhoom.com} #ad

**This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Fhoom. All thoughts are 100% my own.

I love to decorate!

It seems I am always rearranging and trying new things in my home decor. I enjoy it, it's fun for me! But I don't like to make every room look like a carbon copy of a room you could find in any other home. Instead, I want to create rooms that truly reflect our family and our life together. Often I find my favorite rooms in my house are not those that are 'magazine worthy', but my kids' rooms that are 100% them.

But how do you create those unique rooms? Today I'm sharing a few tips:

  • Choose a Theme. For me, I found having a general theme can be a great way to keep me on track of my decorating. This can be an actual theme such as 'fairy tales' or 'trains'... or can just be more vague like a specific color scheme you want to stick with. These themes can even be very subtle in execution-- my personal preference to be honest. My bedroom for instance has a 'love birds' theme. Walking in, it doesn't jump out at you, it's not over the top. But upon closer look you'd notice jewelry stands with little birds, a birdcage print, etc... The theme is in the details.
  • Have Fun with Color. Speaking of color, don't feel like you have to stick to predictable color choices either! It's your room, enjoy it! If you're not totally comfortable with mixing and matching colors, you can always find color inspiration on Pinterest.
  • Incorporate Things You Love. My daughter loves princesses, so her room has a subtle (ish) princess theme. There is a crown that hangs on her wall, etc. BUT she also really likes dinosaurs. So our upcoming project is to create a dino princess--- spray painting a cheap plastic dino, and creating a lace crown... simple, inexpensive, and another fun way to make her room more HER. Love to travel? Decorate with maps of places that held significance to you, etc.
  • Change the Lighting. It's crazy how much lighting can change the look and feel of the room, so use it! For kids rooms, fun lamps or even night lights can bring in their favorite things.
  • Let the Walls Talk. No seriously, let them share your personality with wall art or murals... whatever you like. You can DIY to make it truly unique to you, or just carefully choose the pieces that show of who YOU are. Add family photos or monograms... a favorite quote...the possibilities are ENDLESS.
  • Have Fun with the Bedding. Perhaps one of the easiest things to change in a room and get a completely new look is the bedding... so enjoy it! If you like subtle and tranquil, that's great- do your thing... but if you like bold and unexpected, why not give it a try!
If you're looking to go bold with your bedding, Fhoom is the way to go! They offer 3D bedding options that are fun and completely unique! Take a look at just a few fun styles you can find:

My son loves space, and this set truly makes it look like he's sleeping there! How fun is that!? Some astronaut jammies and you are SET! This is a super fun way to create the perfect space or even science room for the kiddo on your list who loves these things!

What do you get for the cat lover who has everything else? Well... here's your solution! Now this truly is a piece that will make that bedroom 100% unique, don't you think?

Looking to REALLY take a walk on the wild side? This stunning tiger bedding will do the trick! I love the bold tiger against that stunning snowy background. Too beautiful.

Looking for something a little more romantic? This fun set is just perfect for Valentine's Day and beyond! Not only a unique look to your room... but quite the unique way to say I love you too!

Of course, these are just a few of the unique and stunning designs that you can find at Fhoom.com. Very Veggie Bedtime Prayers {A Book Review + Giveaway}

**Book received for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.

"If you like to talk to tomatoes..."

Be honest, how many of you sang that in your head?

If you answered yes, chances are you or your children are Veggie Tales fans. For years Veggie Tales has been beloved by kids and grown ups alike for their silly characters and fun messages and Bible stories to learn from. I remember watching it myself as a kid, and now my kids enjoy it too. Sound like your family?

Then do I have a BOOK for you...

Very Veggie Bedtime Prayers!

This new VeggieTales book of bedtime prayers is perfect for easing the daily transition from playtime to sweet dreams. These rhyming, toddler-friendly prayers will help teach little ones the importance of talking to God every day. Colorful illustrations of familiar VeggieTales characters accompany the short, easily understood prayers. This collection is designed to help children reflect on their day and anticipate the day to come, with requests and gratitude for God’s guidance. With its soft padded cover and convenient size, this book is the perfect way to teach children about prayer and the ways God cares for us through the day—and as we sleep.

Like I said, we're a Veggie friendly family, so as soon as this book arrived on our doorstep, there was excitement all around. And oh yes, the kids were excited too. If you have kids you know, they LOVE their characters. They choose their favorites- whatever they might be- and want anything and everything to do with them. They learn from them because it's something they love. So, for the kids who love Veggie Tales, what better way to teach them about the importance of prayer? We see those same familiar faces we know and love, with easy to read and remember prayers to end the night. They are short and sweet--- perfect for bedtimes! My 4-year-old LOVES it and looks forward to reading it again each night.

And while she might one day outgrow these simple prayers--- and perhaps even Veggie Tales too--- it is starting in her a foundation to say her prayers every night--- something that she can take with her as she grows.

If you have a Veggie fan in your home, this book is a MUST. It is available to purchase now at your favorite Christian book retailers.

And one very lucky reader is going to win a copy for the little one in their life. Enter using the giveaway form below:

How To Have Fun with Your Fashion {+ a Deal from Top Tier Style}

Looking to mix up your look this year? Perhaps the greatest place to start is by changing up your wardrobe! But where do you begin? It's no secret that I love fashion and most importantly, having FUN with fashion, so today I wanted to share some of my personal tips for looking your best and enjoying fashion in the new year and beyond.

  • Play With Color. One thing that can be said about my personal style is that I LOVE color. Rarely do I wear black, but when I do, it's always a pop of color. Might as well have fun with clothes, right? I love mixing together unexpected colors--- blue with orange, yellow with purple, you get the idea. One of my go to combinations lately is olive green with plum. Play around with it though, find what works for you and have fun!
High Split Maxi Dress in Olive Green. I love pairing this gorgeous green with plum, and a cute pair of booties! You could dress this look up with a cute black belt, heels and a gunmetal necklace.

  • Know Your Sizes. The best way to look great in your clothing is to get the right fit. Sizes change from company to company, so always take appropriate measurements and follow size charts accordingly. Don't stress about the numbers--- choosing the proper fit, regardless of size, will help you look your best and cause less fashion stress!
  • Enjoy patterns. While solids certainly have their place in our wardrobes and are definitely staple pieces, don't be afraid of fun patterns either. You can never go wrong with a great floral throughout the year. Plaid is also a must have in my closet, especially during the winter months!
Long Sleeve Bohemian Plaid Dress with Bow. Plaid is a staple in the winter months, much like a gorgeous scarf! Pair the two for a warm and cozy look!

  • Use Accessories Wisely. You can start with gorgeous pieces, but it's the accessories that truly make an outfit! Not only are they a great way to bring in some color, a cute scarf or a fun pair of boots can truly take a simple dress and elevate it to the next level. With proper layering accessories, you can also take your typical 'summer' wear and give it new life during the summer months, giving you even more great options!
  • Mix It Up. Don't feel like you need to stick to just one style if you don't want to! Mix it up--- have some boho looks, some more classic looks, casual, dressy... wear what you like!! My closet is an eclectic mix of various styles I enjoy. Sometimes I can even mix them together for some really fun, unique looks!
Bohemian Style Mini Dress with Tassel Detail. Black and olive is another favorite color combination. I made this mini dress a little more cold weather appropriate with some olive leggings. This versatile style can be worn with leggings, jeans or on it's own with some cute boots.

  • Most importantly, have FUN! Fashion, in my opinion, is supposed to be fun, so don't take it too seriously. Play around, find what works for you... experiment! You may have a few 'what was I thinking?' moments along the way, but as long as you enjoy it, that's all that really matters, right?
High Neck Bohemian Maxi Dress with Tie Detail. I loved mixing it up with this higher neckline. This one size dress is flowy and soft--- absolutely gorgeous! I love it on its own, but also looks amazing paired up with yellow for added fun (as seen on Instagram).

Love the styles featured in this post? I know I do! They are fun to style, beautifully made and just overall gorgeous!  Top Tier Style: Fashion & Clothing provided all of the bohemian summer dresses. If you would like to purchase your own use the coupon code BLOG15 for 15% OFF everything on their store!

Winter Comfort Food: Homemade Black Bean Soup

Here in Indiana, winter has arrived in FULL force.

It is COLD. As I write this post, I am covered in a total of three blankets to attempt to keep warm, and can say it's only half effective! But you know what DOES work to warm the body on these cold winter days? A nice hot bowl of soup!

Recently, I decided to try a homemade black bean soup. I'd scoured the web for the perfect recipe, and wasn't able to find one, but instead decided to combine the elements I liked from several to make my own perfect recipe! I shared the photos online and had many asking for the recipe.

Today, I'm sharing that with all of you:

Homemade Black Bean Soup

  • 2 cans of black beans
  • 1 can (or equivalent) veggie or chicken broth
  • onions
  • green peppers
  • cumin
  • chili powder
  • smoked paprika
  • cilantro
  • olive oil
  1. Chop onions and green peppers. Saute in olive oil until tender.
  2. Pour in 2 cans of black beans (undrained) and the broth. I used veggie broth myself to make this a vegetarian meal, but if that's not important to you, chicken will do just as well.
  3. Add in your seasonings. I do not measure on this, just added to taste. Like it spicy? Add more spice, need something more mild and kid-friendly? Add more slowly!
  4. Heat to boiling, then allow to simmer for approximately 45 minutes- tasting every so often and adding seasonings as need.
This soup is absolutely delicious on it's own, but you can have fun with other pairings too-- top with cheese or a drop of sour cream, serve over rice, or as we did--- serve with some corn chips! There are plenty of delicious options to choose from.

This would also be great in the crock pot too! Just toss in all your ingredients and let it cook all day!

Do you love soups in the winter? What are some of your go to soup recipes?

3 Induction Cooktop Recipes To Try During Your Next Family Camping Trip

It's no secret that proper nourishment is essential for any type of camping trip, whether you're
pitching a tent or renting a cabin. That's just one reason many seasoned campers are investing in
portable induction cooktops to make cooking easier than ever during any camping endeavor. The
basic principles of induction heating have been applied to manufacturing since the 1920s, but
induction heating technology is also used in culinary applications due to the fact that it provides
an even cooking surface that doesn't require wood or charcoal or emit smoke. If you're heading
out into the wilderness for a camping trip anytime soon, it's important to be prepared. Here's a
quick appetizer, entree, and dessert idea to try on your induction cooktop during your next
camping trip.

Appetizer: Loaded Mashed Potato Cakes

This recipe is particularly popular with kids. Plus, it's very versatile -- the recipe calls for bacon
but can easily be substituted with a variety of vegetarian ingredients to suit all dietary needs. It's
easiest to prep the mashed potatoes used in this recipe beforehand, especially if you're working
with limited space. Plus, only 1% of the Earth’s water is suitable for drinking, so doing as much
preparation as you can before leaving for your trip can help cut back on the amount of fresh or
bottled water you need to lug along with you. This recipe is available at Spend With Pennies and
yields about eight servings. Feel free to get creative with what you add!

Entree: Honey Glazed Chicken

Staying energized is critical during a hiking or otherwise physically demanding camping trip, so
it's important to make sure your body has enough protein throughout the day. Chicken is one of
the best low-fat protein options, and when combined with honey, creates a delectably sweet and
savory dish that you're sure to love. Americans consume about 1.3 pounds of honey per person
per year, so there's a very good chance that you already have a bottle of honey in your cupboard
at home. After that, there are just a few required ingredients, including red pepper flakes, olive oil,
soy sauce, and of course, chicken breast. This recipe is provided by AllRecipes, can be prepped
and cooked in about 20 minutes, and yields about four servings.

Dessert: Fried Apple Rings

As a delightful alternative to s'mores, this kid-favorite recipe will make you feel like you're at the
fair again. It just requires a few simple ingredients: granny smith apples, flour, salt, sour cream,
buttermilk, and beer. It helps to prep the apples beforehand by washing, peeling, and coring them.
If you want, you can even slice them and prepare the batter ahead of time as well. If you come
prepared with the batter and the sliced apples, this recipe, provided by Just A Pinch, can literally
be ready to devour in a matter of minutes!

Ultimately, there are countless ways to take advantage of your induction cooktop's convenience
and versatility. It just takes a bit of experimentation and creativity in the kitchen. With some prep
work, you can whip up delicious camping meals for your entire family in no time at all!
