Words Matter: A NKJV Word Study Bible Review #HolidayGiftGuide2017

I love words.

Finding the right words can truly change the course of a conversations. Have you ever been speaking to someone whose first language was not English? Fluent as they may be in a language, one wrong word or mispronunciation can change the whole meaning of your statement. You never know when an intended, 'Where is the restaurant?' can become 'Where is the toilet?' Eeek!

Now, that might be a funny example, but the truth is, sometimes things truly can get lost in the translation. Some words are just misspoken, but sometimes it's just a matter of there not being an exact translation.

This is why when you read different translations of the Bible, oftentimes different words are used. It's not one is necessarily wrong, it's just that the words were translated differently. But by looking at the actual words used and their exact meaning we can gain a better understanding of exactly what it is we're reading. But without actually speaking these languages, how are we to do that?

Today I'm sharing a Bible that just might help, The NKJV Word Study Bible:

The NKJV Word Study Bible includes in-text subheadings and 1,700 easy-to-use word studies with select Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words explained in every chapter from Genesis to Revelation, helping you dig deeper into your Bible study. By looking into these ancient texts we are able to read scripture as it was originally written and passed on from generation to generation, bringing these words to life and allowing you to almost hear Jesus teaching on the hillside or crying out to God on the cross. As you study you will discover the richness and significance of the original languages of the Word of God and experience scripture in a whole new way.
Features Include:
  • NKJV paragraph-style text with in-text subheadings and translators' notes
  • Book introductions
  • Words of Christ in red
  • Word studies
  • Indexes
  • Concordance
  • 10-point type size

This is a fantastic Bible. Each book begins with a brief introduction to the book you are about to read, and where the name derives from. It will also tell you which words to be on the lookout for. As you read, those words will be underlines and notes found on the page on those particular words--- 1700 total. Some of these notes are sharing what the actual translation is- the language it originated from and the meanings, etc. Others might offer a more cultural reference on the importance of that word in the times it was used--- these are words that might have held more substance at that time, but reading now--- well, doesn't hold that same power.  These are very brief explanations, and perhaps not the most in depth for those who are wanted to truly study deeper into the languages, but are a perfect starting point. It will help you to better understand what you are reading, and if you find a particular word of special interest, you would know where to begin to study deeper.

If you are like me and love words and truly want to read and understand the Bible in a whole new way (or if you have someone on your list who is), this Bible is a must see. It is available to purchase at your favorite Christian book retailers.
